Employment Opportunity at DM Education

Program Advisor at an EdTech Company

Key Features of The Job:

  1. You will be working from home, helping parents, teachers and children over our messaging system and on Zoom calls, as you ensure the children all advance with their reading skills on our unique online learning system.
  2. Flexible but guaranteed hours as a self-employed contractor, starting at $37k/year full time, or pro-rata part time.
  3. All the literacy training and system training that you need is included.

6-Month Contract with Likely Extension to Permanent

Would you love to help parents and teachers see their struggling readers succeed? Do you thrive in a training or teaching capacity? If you are interested in making a difference in the area of literacy education, this could be your dream job.

It is ideal for college graduates especially in languages and/or English, or people with teaching experience looking to work in education outside oft the classroom. We are looking for a new team member based in Sacramento, CA, to help cover support for the West Coast of North America.

We are a small, growing educational company based in Oxford, UK, with team members worldwide. We run a highly successful online intervention for struggling readers and dyslexic children ages 6-12+ around the world.

Job Specifications

You will spend the bulk of your time training and supporting parents and teachers both in writing and on the phone. There may be some school visits involved as well (COVID-permitting!). You will be teaching them how to use our online reading program, and giving advice and consultation as needed.

We are confident that we are the best in the world at what we do. You can have a look at our 5-star Facebook recommendations here:

You will have regular online face-to-face Zoom lessons with the children using the lessons too, to offer specialist reading help and guidance.

This is an extremely rewarding process since turning struggling non-readers into readers is such a life-changing outcome for each child.

As a small company, we are renowned for our highly personalized customer service. So any team member must be totally confident speaking on the phone and Zoom, and enjoy interpersonal interaction with both children and adults. Though we will fully train you in our system, you must feel confident taking a teaching/advisory role when speaking to a wide variety of people. And your writing must be clear and accurate – this is a job where attention to detail is an absolute must.

All of the work is computer-based, so you must have up-to-date digital skills.

We will fully train you in the main causes of reading difficulty and issues around learning difficulties. So a teaching or educational background is not required, though welcome. However you should be a quick learner, as there is a lot to absorb in the first few weeks. It is an exciting process, but a very detailed one!

Your training will be done in normal working hours, but the support team meet once per week to review any updates to our working processes. Given the range of working hours across the continents, this weekly meeting may be early in the morning for you.

Other Aspects to the Position

We keep the other job roles of the company within the support team. So there is plenty of opportunity to get into other areas of the business, such as:

  • Development of our materials and support systems
  • Marketing, social media and promotions
  • Business administration and logistics

On the other hand, we do have one team member who chooses to focus on just client support and does not get involved in other activities, which is fine too. We want everybody to be doing what they want to do and doing it all well. That is what leads to the best outcomes!

Personal Specifications

  • Based in Sacramento, CA or within a drive-able radius
  • Bachelor’s degree-educated (ideally in languages, English or similar, though we are flexible)
  • Perfect spoken and written English
  • Detail-oriented
  • Interested in education/literacy
  • Very fast learner
  • Confident on the phone – really, you have to enjoy it! – interacting with parents and children
  • Comfortable with a high degree of autonomy; after you are trained in the position you will be working directly with clients around the world
  • Highly computer literate
  • Some experience of digital marketing would be an advantage
  • Ability to provide a clean background check for working directly with children

Salary Etc.

As this is a position for which you will be self-employed, you will invoice us at the end of each month. Our current starting annual salary is $37K full time, including five weeks of paid holiday.

If you want to work part time, then the hourly rate will start at USD$20/hour, which includes a 10% uplift for holidays.

Though you can fix your own hours, they need to be fairly regular and planned ahead, so that our clients can book in with you reliably.

There will be a six-week initial trial. The job is then initially contracted for 6-months in the first instance, with the high likelihood of extension all being well.

Application Process

This really is a great job for the right person:

  • You will be having a huge impact on the lives of people in a very difficult situation. So you will never need to question the meaning of your work.
  • You will become a world-leading expert on reading, writing and dyslexia.
  • It’s an easy-going, small team environment with a bunch of great people
  • There is the potential to expand into leadership within domains beyond your primary role.

So, first of all, if you are not feeling that it is potentially a dream job for you, please don’t apply! It would be a total waste for you.

If you do like the sound of the job, then you need to send in an application with the following three elements:

  1. Please include a basic CV with your employment history and education
  2. Please draft a letter/email to an imaginary friend with a bright 7 year-old daughter who is struggling to read, on the reasons why you think it might be worth them giving Easyread a go. The available resources on our website will allow you to thoroughly research Easyread and visual phonics.
  3. Please also include a letter describing why you think you would be good at the primary role and what other areas you think that you could contribute to.

Please send your application using the form below.

Deadline: 20th February 2021

Please send any questions you have to support@dm-ed.com

Thanks!
