Our Reading Help Explained

I struggled to learn to read. So I have spent the last 20 years making sure your children don’t need to feel that pain and frustration.

– David Morgan

In just a matter of days, the agony you are feeling for your struggling reader can turn into joy for both of you…

I promise that from the bottom of my heart! We even guarantee the results you will see (see below).

Please do read on to discover how we can achieve that.

Practical, short, online sessions, with support

First, our system is designed to be practical. I know what life as a busy parent or teacher is like. Time is always short.

The lessons are just 12-15 minutes online and completely structured, so that you have no worries about what to do each day. You just log in at the best time for you and get rolling.

You will also find that my team of expert consultants are totally committed to your success and will guide you through each stage of the process. They have the tools and knowledge needed for you to see success every time.

The children enjoy the lessons

What we do is different to what you have tried before and it gets different results. Our trainertext visual phonics (see below for details) is designed around the way a child’s brain likes to learn.

No more guessing (which I explain below). No more tears. No more battles! Reading practice will become a time of the day you both look forward to.

Children even ask to do our lessons, because they are full of games and seem easy.

Feeling doubtful?

You are probably skeptical about all of this right now. I would be in your shoes. We have parents and teachers come to us who have pretty much tried everything else, all without success. They are, quite frankly, not expecting this to work either, when they start!

But even when a child has been struggling for years, we still expect to see a new attitude in the first ten days and then get a clear breakthrough in just 60-90 days (and sometimes much sooner). You can check the independent tests that have been done, by clicking on the evidence link below.

Once that key breakthrough is in place, the accuracy and fluency keep building steadily and the spelling starts to show changes soon after too.

Take a look at some of our Facebook Reviews

If you read people’s stories on our Facebook reviews page, you will hear again and again how their daily stress turned into joy and pride in a short time. Here’s a handful:

Why success is so essential

In my view, there is just nothing more important in a child’s early years of school, than learning to read. I can tell you that, because I really struggled with reading. I also know how stressful it is as a parent because some of my children struggled too.

Back when I was 8, my reading started to be a big worry for everyone. My big sister was a great reader and my big brother was too. Even my little brother was fast becoming better than me. I can actually remember my mother’s anguished face.

The reason for her worry was that you soon have to shift from learning to read, towards reading to learn. Literacy is at the core of our education system. So it stands to reason that you cannot succeed easily in our school system without good literacy.

Guessing short words explained

I remember guessing words, in a vague hope they might be the right one! You may have seen that too. Many of the brightest children we help are guessing short, common words, despite sometimes reading longer ones accurately.

The guessing can seem to work at first. It can seem the easiest option, when there are only a few words in a book and you have read the book before. You can probably recognise quite a few of the words and you just guess the rest from the first letter and the context.

The longer words are often easier because they look more distinctive and they fit more clearly into the context. But the shorter ones all look similar! If a child is memorising whole words as their reading strategy, then you will always see errors with the short words.

How reading difficulty followed me

At school I got into numbers and science. The books were not working for me, but I had control of the numbers.

Eventually I applied to Oxford University to study engineering. My paper got one of the top marks in the exam, but it got rated a B because I had not “explained my answers”.

So my reading and writing had the last laugh of my school career! Don’t let your child’s potential get held back in the same way. Please don’t just hope it will work out.

Please do ignore the “just do more reading” advice…

So I did get an engineering degree and I eventually saw progress with my reading. I also got a job and even got married. But then I had kids…

To my horror, I saw them starting to have exactly the same difficulties I had had. Our first son went to school and was just not learning to read.

The advice we were given was: “just do more reading with him”. That is easy advice to give, but the reading sessions were becoming a nightmare for both of us. Doing even more was not practical and why should that suddenly work after months of failure anyway?

Time to try something different

One day it dawned on me that if my son was going to learn to read, we would just have to work it out together. We would have to do something different, that suited him better.

The puzzle-solving engineer in me then got going and I did create a new process for him. And amazingly…  it worked! It was not the TVP process we use now and was not brilliantly fast, but it did work. You can be sure we have learned a lot since then.

At about that time I helped establish The Shannon Trust (see below in my bio) and became aware of just how many children around the world suffer with this same frustration. It is hidden from view, but thousands of bright children, with loads of potential, are all failing school at the first fence.

The Quest begins: A solution for every child

So, in a somewhat crazy way (certainly crazy according to my long-suffering wife), I decided to try and fix this issue, once and for all.

I was running a furniture company at the time, but literacy became my obsession. I did my masters degree on the side too (do remember my poor wife, who was picking up almost everything else and working…!).

The trainertext visual phonics that you can test now, on our Easyread System free trial (see below), is the outcome of that crazy journey. By building a system that works with the strengths of the child’s brain, we find that they all get good results.

Mission: 100% success

Our Easyread System team mission is 100% success. Not 97% or 98%, but 100%. Whatever they might claim, the real outcome achieved by most conventional tutoring systems is around 60% success, which is why they never guarantee the result you will see.

Month after month we achieve our mission. I am totally confident we are now the best in the world at this task.

Most of our Easyread children come to love reading and reach the top half of their class, in due course.

Dyslexics do just as well

Around 40% of the children we help have a dyslexia diagnosis. We see absolutely no difference in the outcomes achieved with the dyslexic children. It is no worry at all for us.

We find the bulk of them are very bright visual learners, who have been sight-memorising whole words. Once we get them decoding the letter patterns into sounds, they usually fly.

Some dyslexics do have other complications to deal with, but those are all familiar to us and we have solutions ready for them.

Evidence for you to check out

I you look at the evidence linked to below, you will start to understand that we mean what we say. This is not hot air or some Russian internet scam (yes, that has been asked more than once!).

Our process has been academically tested in a randomised control trial. The children in the trial were 8 when they started and caught up 2 years of reading age in 120 lessons on average.

Our guarantee (see below) also reflects the fact that we are as committed to a great outcome as you are.

Evidence-Based

As you know, my first degree was in engineering. It is basic to engineering that you like to know that something really works! Lives are often at stake.

With the Easyread System, we have tested every bit of our process, in the standard scientific loop. This system is totally evidence-based, not driven by untested theory.

Over the years we have isolated nine different ways a child’s reading can go wrong. You will find us constantly checking that we are getting those nine issues right for your child.

What’s it like?

The core of our process is online tutoring with our trainertext visual phonics (see below for information on trainertext).

You will log on each day to do a structured lesson that usually lasts 12-15 minutes. It involves a mix of games and activities. It is designed to be fun and easy at each stage.

After the foundation lessons, the system will begin to adapt to your child. We want to keep your child in a sweet spot of maximum progress, without it ever seeming overwhelming.

During the whole process we will guide you on how to see the best and quickest results for your child. We use a multi-media approach, involving training notes and videos, spread mainly over the first two weeks.

We will also chat with you on the phone throughout  the whole course, to make sure you are seeing the right patterns developing. We sometimes do lessons with you both too, so that we can see how things are going ourselves.

The more help you want or need, the more help we give.

What results to expect

Here are a few benchmarks that we are looking to achieve:

  • From day 1, your child should be feeling more relaxed about reading practice. Changing any negative psychology is essential. The first lessons will seem easy.
  • By lesson 10, the system should be making sense and you will both be seeing how different it is to what you have done before.
  • By lesson 30, the lesson routine will be seeming easy.
  • Sometime between lesson 30 and lesson 90, you will begin to see that the accuracy with short and medium words has clearly improved outside of the lessons.
  • Reading fluency will then start to grow. Most children do 120-250 lessons. How many they need depends on a mix of cognitive factors. We can advise you on that.
  • Spelling improvement generally starts to show through around 60 lessons after the reading changes start.

Cost

The cost of the Easyread System is roughly equivalent to a weekly session with a local tutor. There is a link to the exact pricing in your local currency below.

The key differences to any other solution are as follows:

  • We guarantee you will see positive changes.
  • The system will help your child every day, not just once a week.
  • We can give you unlimited direct support and guidance at any time too.
  • What we are doing is different to anything you have tried before.
  • Your child will look forward to our short, fun sessions each day.
  • Our learning processes are designed to work with the natural strengths of your child. At its heart, our system is based on the neurological study I did at the beginning of this journey.

A special offer for you!

If you create a free trial account right now, we will do a personalised assessment for you of what has been at the heart of your child’s reading frustrations. It is a new service we have been developing.

This assessment, by one of our reading support experts, will be done without charge, during our free trial. You could pay thousands and still not get the insights we will give you.

N.B. Please note, however, for obvious reasons we are due to make this assessment process a paid-for service, separate to the free trial of the lessons. But right now, today, you can grab it free, before we make that change.

10-Day free trial of the lessons

You can join the Easyread family and see it all start to work out for your child, without any risk or cost.

The lessons are only 12-15 minutes each day. So there is no reason not to get started straight away:
