When we first made contact with Easyread, I freely admit that I was skeptical. I like to understand how things work and so was not reassured when the Easyread team told me there was no clinical trial data, nor even an understanding of how the Easyread approach actually helps children. The school SENCO and educational psychologist were equally skeptical. But we were fairly desperate by then, had tried most other avenues, and were persuaded by the money-back guarantee, and the experience of other parents. After all, what had we got to lose ? We were determined to give the course a fair trial, and so persisted in the sessions, although in truth this was hardly onerous as our son enjoyed them. It is brilliant that they are limited to 10 minutes per day.
We have very nearly finished the whole course now. And what a difference ! I don’t think our son will ever be an enthusiastic reader, which saddens me because both my wife and I believe there is much joy to be gained from reading. But he has become a much more competent and confident reader. He still skips over the occasional word and fails to gain comprehension when he gets tired, but he is so much better now than he was. The difference is like chalk and cheese – he is no longer intimidated by written pages, and is happy to get stuck in by himself.
And my learning ? You don’t have to understand how something works if it does. Just accept that it does, and enjoy.
Our sincere thanks to David and his remarkable and dedicated team.
Yours sincerely,
Michael
