“The Flying Scot” Race Car Driver Speaks on Dyslexia

We’ve previously written a bio on the famous Sir Jackie Stewart, the star Scottish driver between 1965-1973. Forbes magazine has just published an interview with the charismatic champion, that touched on his reading difficulties in school many decades ago.

Talking about his teacher, he says: “so therefore in front of the class she says, ‘Jackie Stewart, you’re stupid, dumb and thick.’…It got to a point where I was dodging school. Sports saved my life: first shooting, later motor racing.”

Thankfully, schools have moved on considerably from the days of public humiliation in the classroom. But, as last week’s article outlined, there’s still a long way to go…
