I wanted to share that his new teacher at school has noticed an improvement in David’s reading behaviours from last year. Big win! In our sessions I also see him trying to find the correct sound instead of random guesses. Most noticeable to me is when words such as “What, When, Where, Were,…” he works his way through the whole word instead of tossing out the first W word that comes to mind.I know we have a long way to go for reading to come easily for David, but I think one of our biggest hurdles has been conquered: his belief in himself that he can work his way through decoding the words properly! I see him trying to decode words in every day tasks, too, when even a couple of months ago, he would just say “I can’t read, you know” and not try.
