Parent Reviews of Easyread

Our most recent reviews:

He literally wakes up every morning and asks if he can play his game

Day 7 and 6 year-old Nathan is LOVING Easyread –

“Nathan is having a great time doing the Easyread games. He literally wakes up every morning and asks if he can play his game.

I am impressed with how the games have engaged him and encourage him to focus – which he previously struggled with when I did his homework with him.”

100% on comprehension test!

I have been very satisfied with Easyread. Evie’s attitude towards reading has improved and she is doing a lot of reading on her own.
She came home today with good news from her reading resource teacher at school. She took a test five weeks ago that tests her reading comprehension, only getting half of the questions correct. Today she took a test and got all of the questions correct. I see a difference just in her willingness to read signs and directions. I know the program says that you won’t see noticeable results outside of the easy read program until 90 days, but I definitely see a difference.
She is enjoying the lessons and they seem to be getting very easy for her.

Fabulous…

I do feel like he has made good improvement. He is now working on decoding words instead of just guessing which is fabulous.

Case Study: Daughter of teacher sees breakthrough!

Prior to stumbling across Easyread we had tried many avenues to help Erin with her reading. Whilst she was not a complete non-reader she was definitely a couple of years behind and losing confidence as time went on. As a former primary school teacher in Australia, I was trained and experienced in teaching children to read and was able to offer her more specific help than most parents. She had received some support through her school, vision therapy with a behavioural optometrist for over a year, and some tutoring prior to that. Despite these supports Erin was still struggling.

When I read the information on your website I felt like I was reading a description of her reading style and was cautiously optimistic as to what you were offering. It turns out to have been the best educational decision we have ever made and incredibly life changing for Erin. She is now reading with greater comprehension, accuracy and fluency. Her spelling and writing are also improving.

Erin has always loved books and it’s incredibly satisfying to know that she can now engage in reading for both learning and fun. She thinks that Easyread is by far the best thing she has done for her learning. She loved receiving parcels in the mail and emails from her tutor. As a parent the support was outstanding and I never felt alone during the program. The website was simple to use and the team were always just an email, phone call or skype lesson away.

I highly recommend the program to any parent!

Thank you so very much for creating such a brilliant and truly life changing program. We are forever grateful!

Reading words like "aerosol" and "deodorant" at lesson 60!

“He is gaining so much more confidence. He is even reading out loud voluntarily especially instructions, which he would never have attempted before. He managed to pack the entire contents of his bag for school camp using the instructions provided which included words like aerosol and deodorant.

Thank you”

Amazing results at lesson 60 for 9 year-old Liam

From 2 years behind to exceeding her peers

“Thank you for the help over the last 12 months. Brigid has become not only a competent reader but a confident one. We have completed a reading record at school which shows she now exceeds her peers (when she was previously 2 years behind!).”

Amazing results for 10 year-old Brigid!

He’s having lots of fun!

Jason received his first gift today! He loves it! This is his message to you:

“I really love you guys, I hope we can be doing this more often. Yes,I want to be a secret agent! I can’t wait for my next gift. Is it going to be another toy?”

Thank you so much Sarah, he’s having lots of fun with the spy glasses!

He read T.S. Eliot! How things have changed…

Most nights now Curtis is volunteering to read a book to myself or William. In fact last night I had to convince him to stop to go to bed. This morning I found him trying to read some sentences from a novel that I am currently reading and with a bit of help read a passage by T.S. Elliot that was in the book ” We die with the dying: See, they depart, and we go with them. We are born with the dead: See, they return, and bring us with them”….. A little heavier reading than I was expecting from him at this stage but he read that passage with only moderate assistance. How things have changed!

GCSE Success

We just wanted to let you know that our daughter Meghan, who learned to read with Easyread at 10 years of age, received her English Language GCSE grade result at 15 years of age. She passed with a grade “C” after being home schooled!
We are very happy parents and wanted to let you know that without your Easyread system she would never have come this far!
Good luck with all your current students.

Starting to read signs outside

Dillon is enjoying his easy read lessons. He is now taking more time to read words rather than just guessing them… He has started to read signs when we are going out and he is starting to understand what he reads a bit more.

All in all we are very happy with Easyread and we’re looking forward to the next lessons.

BIG THANK YOU

Isaac has done 223 lessons… i can’t believe it and neither can he. THANK YOU. Brimming with confidence. Obvs I’d like to do more as a very nice ritual we have been in at 6pm each night (despite the odd holiday!) but really a joy to see him improving over the past few months. BIG THANK YOU

Awesome… I'm excited!

Thanks, Sarah! I had them do the nonsense words activity today. Oh my goodness, Greyson did great at it. Before Easyread, he would not have been able to do that at all. Taylor also did so much better than he would have done before the program. Awesome…I’m excited!

Reads easily now…

He is reading so much better! His confidence is improving by leaps and bounds. He reads easily most of the time outside of the program. So when do we know he’s ready to stop easy read and just read daily for pleasure and practice?! Thanks!

Self-confidence has soared

Sarah has made great strides in her reading, spelling and writing. And perhaps even more importantly than actual measurements, is the fact that her self-confidence has soared so that she is willing to take risks with writing! She even has been pleased to note her improvements and is taking some pride in her accomplishments.

We have truly loved this program and are so glad that our speech therapist encouraged us to try it.

7 year-old Skye passes her phonics test after 60 lessons

“I have found Easy read to be really good and could see an improvement after just 30 sessions with the programme. I am sure it was the programme that helped Skye pass her phonics test recently which she failed last year. She now does not guess really easy words and has started to decode properly. Skye has just been diagnosed with Dyslexia so I really hope we can continue on a positive path.”

Excellent results for 7 year-old Skye at lesson 60!

The fact he’s up to a mid-average level in reading is testament that this programme has really helped him enormously

Uschi shares the results from Corin’s educational psychologist report, undertaken after 200 lessons of Easyread:

“We saw an educational psychologist on Monday who started her assessment with Corin. She did an hour with him on all sorts of general maths, reading, spelling and vocabulary tests. Lovely lady and Corin was quite happy to do that. Especially, cause they started off with maths, as he said that was his strongest subject, so he was happy to show what he could do.

I got the report today and it pretty much confirmed what we would have thought.

This is what it said in terms of current attainment:

Current Attainment:
Attainments in Literacy: The following tests are to be considered:
Reading
Untimed test of graded single word reading, in this case the Wide Range Achievement Test 4 (blue test form) was used. The word reading subtest is made up of two sections – letter reading and word reading, it is a recognition test.
Corin read confidently and audibly when he recognised the word easily. He demonstrated excellent blending skills and used his phonetic knowledge to decode unfamiliar words successfully. His standardised score was 106 placing him in the mid-average range.

Sentence Comprehension measures an individual’s ability to gain meaning from words and to comprehend ideas and information in sentences using a modified cloze technique.
Corin read the sentences with some fluency. At times he approximated words and ‘read’ what he thought they said often then re-reading to be more accurate, this seemed to mean that occasionally he lost the flow and some of the meaning of what he was reading. His comprehension standardised score was 104, again mid-average range.

Spelling
Untimed test of graded single word spelling, in this case the Wide Range Achievement Test 4 (blue test form) was used. The spelling subtest is made up of two sections – letter writing (13 dictated letters) and also name writing, and dictated spellings of single words. The scoring in this subtest relies on the letters being clearly recognisable – undotted i’s and uncrossed t’s are permitted however letter reversals are not.

Corin could spell simple, phonetically correct, words and the more common exception words (e.g. should). Those words that he did not spell correctly had some common errors e.g. syllables missing, spelling rules not followed but some phonetical awareness.
Corin’s standardised score was 90, placing him in mid – average range for spelling.

The standard score difference between this and word reading and more particularly mathematics computation is worthy of note being statistically significant and could suggest a specific difficulty.

I’m particularly pleased that he really showed his excellent decoding skills, because that’s definitely the achievement of Easyread, no doubt about it. The fact that he’s up to a mid-average level in reading is testament that this programme has really helped him enormously.

I’ll spare you the full maths assessment, but in the test used, he came out in the high-average group – again, pretty much where I would have expected him to be.

So, the psychologist suggested that she could delve a little deeper into the area of spelling difficulty to see if there are specific things we could do to help Corin with this. It will probably always be hard for Corin, but I still think that if we know where the issue is as precisely as possible, then we can help the most. And the fact that he is now reading with more ease and therefore generally reading more will surely also help his spelling in the long run.

Right, that’s probably a long enough message for now 🙂 But I think it really gives some backing to the success of the programme – I know there wasn’t a formal comparable assessment beforehand, but I know he wouldn’t have scored this highly in the reading.”

Already he's a different child…

I just wanted to drop a note to let you know the difference we are seeing in Liam already. Tonight we did his school homework which is normally a chore, however tonight we have a different child. He actively did his challenge spelling words, using your sheets he managed to spell the following words correctly:
– agonisingly
– commander
– notorious
-mainland
– Port Arthur
– Port Jackson.
All I can say is thank you so much, we have one happy kid and two over the moon parents.

I have nothing but great things to say…

I have nothing but great things to say about the program and feel certain it has set Kate up for success. Kate reads daily on her own, books of her choosing and teacher feedback has been all positive. Her progress has been amazing.

I welcome an opportunity to refer the system and thank you for your support.

Kind regards
Karen

She’s starting to see herself as a reader

“Kaitlyn jumped 3 reading levels at school last term. She’s been getting extra support each week at school which is building her confidence as she’s improving quickly. She’s very happy to be reading Snow White although she stresses when she sees the four lines together. She calms down when we tell her she’s already read them and that she just has to reread them. She’s starting to see herself as a reader and although it’s still early days we’re very happy with the progress.

Kaitlyn’s getting a little more confident with her writing too. She’s very imaginative and likes making up stories so we’re encouraging her to write them. She prefers other people do the writing for her but she’s still doing a lot better.”

A very happy mum at lesson 86.

A message from a very happy mum

“Dear Easyread, we are so excited about Olivia finishing her Easyread program. It seems a long time ago when we started the first lesson but she has gained confidence and enjoyed every session.

Olivia’s reading has improved significantly and in the first three months she went up several reading levels. This was the input we really needed for her and were delighted to discover Easyread online.

Thanks so much for all the prizes and she is definitely very excited about the helicopter and has been since you first mentioned it.

Thanks for the support and we will continue to use you as a resource.

From a Happy Mum, Anne”

Congratulations Olivia and Anne!

Olivia’s helicopter has now arrived, and she is currently enjoying becoming a pro pilot.

Easyread has become a part of daily life

What a wonderful message to receive from 8 year-old Corin’s mum. Corin is about a month away from finishing the main part of the course:

“Just thought I’d give you a bit of an update…

Easyread is ticking along nicely, I would say. Corin is still enjoying it [at lesson 194!] – it’s just become part of daily life, really. His reading is still improving. He’s reading Ungar at the moment and I’m pleased that he’s still engaged with the story, despite it being the longest he’s read so far. He loves the reading statistics (he loves his maths 🙂 and working out how many pages make how many percent etc. I think at this stage it’s nice to see that his reading speed is improving as well as his accuracy.

Last week, they did a reading test in class (not SATs as he’s in year 3, just an internal assessment, but with standardised tests). As he was off school, but feeling reasonably well, we did it at home. After a bit of a wobbly start (Corin took about 30 mins to complete one of three sections and got very worried that he was taking too long – we took a time out to talk about “test tactics” and when he went back to it, he really concentrated on the rest of the test. After 1 hour he had done two sections and only needed another 20 mins for the remainder. And this was a Year 3 test! I’ve only flicked through his answers, so I don’t know his final score, but what I saw looked good, so I think he will score reasonably high. And most important of all, in the end, he felt quite proud that he’d managed to get through it. It was more about the unfamiliarity of the testing method that was hard for him, rather than the reading and questions themselves. The fact that he worked through a Year 3 test and in the end felt he did alright really gave him a boost.

Spelling is improving – I think – very very slowly. I think Spell Drive is really good and I have a feeling it is very slowly seeping into writing outside of Easyread. I was quite surprised that in the last Writing Lab, Corin spelled every word correctly.

In other news, after having finished the Harry Potter series (read by Dad), Corin has now started reading the first book on his own. He loves the story and I think, because he knows the story, he has the feeling that he can manage the reading, too. His added incentive is that his dad has started reading the German version – and he’s much slower than Corin 🙂

Sorry, waffling a bit now… I just wanted to add a bit of context to what can be seen on the stats in Easyread…”

We love to receive these kinds of messages, particularly the “waffle” of all the great stuff that’s happening for our secret agents. Well done Corin!

I was surprised when her English teacher wrote that her reading has improved

Amazing progress for 10 yo Elissa, and at lesson 65!

“Thanks for the update. Elissa’s reading has improved already. I received her school report last week and was surprised when her English teacher wrote that her reading has improved. She is reading more fluently and is self correcting more often when reading aloud. She is also increasingly able to identify misspelt words in her writing.

I look forward to the additional progress in the coming 20 lessons. Thanks to all at Easyread. I only wish I had found you earlier.”
