Parent Reviews of Easyread

Our most recent reviews:

Begging for books!

Zach has improved tremendously.  He begged for books for Christmas and loves to sit now and read.  Something that was unheard of last year!  We are so pleased.

He feels 10 feet tall today! Thank you!

Just a quick note to let you know that Damian from Australia got 16/16 in his spelling test at school last week! Some of the tricky words were ‘hatch’, ‘yolk’ and ‘question’ but they weren’t too hard for him because we used the easy read characters to remember the difficult sounds and memories the spelling just of those difficult sounds. He feels 10 feet tall today. Thank you!

The biggest change has been to his confidence…

When I started to work with Alfie he did not seem very interested or motivated by easyread but his attitude has changed quite dramatically over the last few months and he now can’t wait to get started each day. I think he still finds it hard to believe that he is doing well on a reading activity. In the last couple of months his reading has definitely improved, and this can now be seen in his handwriting and to a degree in his spelling. The biggest change that can be seen is in his confidence which has been lovely to watch.

Cannot think of a single criticism!

Sarah, Thank you so much. This program was so very good. I asked Grace what she liked and she said ” it was fun, easy and I liked the jokes!” We so appreciate all your work. I cannot think of any constructive criticism for you. Your program works, is fun for the kids and your communication and accountability with me was fantastic! All I can say is I wish you had a program for language arts and math!!!

We’re looking forward to the spelling program. Many thanks for everything!!

Continuing to excel

Elizabeth is continuing to excel in reading so I am pleased!

She is reading!!!

She is reading!!!! This is huge. This last summer, after four years of trying things, I was so lost and not hopeful. But, SHE IS READING.

Good improvements from 8 months ago

It is hard to believe that we have been doing the course for almost 8 months now. It came with its frustrations but I’m glad we stuck with it. C has made good improvements with his reading from where he was in the beginning.

Thank you so much for your time and advice, we appreciate it.

Thank you for your excellent program

Dear David, Sarah and all the Easyread Team,

Thank you so much for your excellent programme that Matthew has just completed.

It has made such a significant difference to his ability and his confidence. It was such a relief to find David’s summary of the possible situations that Easyread would address – to find explained the exact situation Matt was in, which didn’t fit his school’s educational model or more common discussions of dyslexia…

I have recommended the system to a number of family and friends with kids who are not flourishing under their schools’ methods for reading, or who seem to be getting into the same habits that I recognised in Matt and that David explained so clearly in his introductory videos and text.

Thank you so much for the motivational gifts that have punctuated the course – they have been a real winning combination for Matt. The fact that they have been of good quality has been a real positive for me – the last thing they need is more flimsy plastic bits of tat in the toybox!

Thank you again for the course and for the system. I wish you many more years of successes.

Tearful to think Easyread is ending!

hi David and everyone at Easyread,
Reana has finally finished the course and we actually cheered when we realised it was the last lesson, but it’s been such an experience doing this together and persevering despite all the ups and downs over the last year and a half. I felt quite tearful to think this is the end. Reana continues to make great progress with her reading, thank you to everyone,

Can't sing your praises enough!

Cameron is excelling marvelously in his reading abilities. We are practicing sight words every day, as well as reading independently/being “around a book” for 30 minutes and being read to for 15 minutes and reading to someone for 15 minutes daily. We are progressing with fluency – right now it’s stop and start. I also have assigned him ten spelling words a week from the Dolch and Fry Word lists, which we review daily. I think it was the best decision we could have made to homeschool him. He’s literally breezing through Easyread and loves to do it every evening. I couldn’t sing your praises more than I currently am doing! Four months and what a difference, both in confidence and reading capabilities! He’s amazing both me and his dad.

We'd recommend it to anyone

I do feel that the Easy Read system really did help her and would recommend it to anyone and will pass the information on to other concerned parents.

THANK YOU so much for your system and your help.

Update from Tom's secondary school report!

I have been meaning to email you to update you on Tom’s progress.  All is going well in secondary school. His school operates the Accelerated Reader Programme and when he took a test at the start of the school year he faired pretty well – he certainly wasn’t bottom of his class! The results determine the “band” of books they are able to take out. At the end of a book the child takes a short online test to check how much they have remembered and the school looks to them to get 80%+. Tom is finally making sensible choices – he has read 5 or 6 books since the start of the school year and happily now reads before going to sleep. At Christmas he was given a Certificate for Best Attitude to Learning in Your ARP Class and was chuffed to bits!

My, have we turned a corner!

Hi Sarah,

I just wanted to give you a bit of feedback.

We spoke a few weeks ago and did a Skype lesson because I was concerned about Damian regressing. He was guessing and reading very slowly, and losing interest too.

My, have we turned a corner! Since changing to a lighter coloured background, and since returning to school after the summer break, his reading has really taken off. He guesses perhaps one word each lesson and has become very quick at decoding in games. I also notice that he is instantly recognising words that he previously had to work hard to decode. It is so nice to see.

Most importantly though, he is enjoying the daily lessons again!

Thanks again for everything.

Reading finally getting easier!

You will also be happy to know that since our lengthy break over the Christmas holidays
here in Australia, S’s reading seems to have improved a lot and she is
finding the reading each day much easier – FINALLY !!!!  Though we still
have a way to go it is nice to feel she is making headway.

James’ Easyread Journey

We started 7 months ago when he had been static at school for a good 3 months with teacher – not the sharpest knife in the drawer – mystified as to the reason. Equally so was I. Within a week of starting Easyread it became incredibly obvious that this system would work. We have certainly had some tough times, mainly in getting him to concentrate, and trying to eliminate external issues that made it harder to do. But we plugged away, although I have to say it was sheer bloodymindedness on my part that kept us going – and I think it was only 3 months in when he started rapidly gaining levels.

I think the key to its success is that it manages to reverse ingrained behaviour without looking like it is doing so. James was a prolific and quite skilled guesser. He had only been in school a year but had obviously (now) effectively stopped learning some time before that, since every second word was guessed when I knew what I was looking for. Easyread managed to stop him doing that and learn to accurately sound out. It also picked up eyetracking issues that neither I nor teacher had ever noticed. Fixing that made a big difference. The duration is key also as I’m certain he couldn’t concentrate beyond 15 mins. The prizes and certificates, not to mention David’s “congrats” messages when moving levels, made him quite proud I think and definitely more confident. Before this I had been saying things like, well, maybe reading’s not your thing, but you are good at maths. Now I can say both. The feedback and support at your end are exactly what is required to tailor the course for each child. (there is a big scandal in NZ right now with another online course called CAMI which costs something like 10k and is rubbish)

All in all I am grateful beyond words as we have started a new school year with him on par with his classmates and able to progress according to his own ability, which is considerable. This obviously held him back last year: but a busy parent can easily be fooled by an enterprising and intelligent child. So thanks again. I am recommending you guys to all!

Gained 1 yr of reading age in 4 months of Easyread!

I had a mid-year conference with Everett’s 3rd grade teacher last week. His reading level in August was 2nd grade 3rd month and in December he had improved to 3rd grade 3rd month. That is a whole year of improvement in 4 months! His reading fluency also increased from 52 words per minute to 96 words per minute in the same time frame. We are so very excited and encouraged. Thank you guys for a wonderful program.

It is helping her in other areas of school!

She LOVES Easyread! We believe that it is helping her in others areas of school, such as Math. She was never quite grasped the idea of addition until today! (Yes, we are celebrating around here!) Thank You for all your help!

PS I have recommended Easyread to several friends!

Thank you for helping me

Thank you for helping me. I think my reading is getting better.I have found it sometimes easy and sometimes hard and i don’t like word mash hard level; but i really like Letter Quest and Jokes and Facts and Fighter Mission.
Please remember that i think the characters should be made into mini story cartoons or a magazine too. i will try and think of some storylines for you.

Many thanks

M

A more independent, confident reader

From Caroline when asked about EasyRead: “I like EasyRead because it has fun games and inspires me to read more. I like how it takes it step by step and doesn’t go so fast.”

From me: Caroline’s response is worth so much to me and speaks highly of the program. I feel it is giving her tools to be a more independent and confident reader. The symbols have been helpful in her decoding.

Easyread inspires me

I like EasyRead because it has fun games and inspires me to read more. I like how it takes it step by step and doesn’t go so fast.

One of the best training sessions to date

I have found EasyRead to be one of the best training sessions to date. I think the feedback from the narrator is very helpful, teaching me how to use words of encouragement. My son has more confidence in trying to decode words.

Amazing difference in her!

Alex read one of her school texts last night, one that I considered was too long and hard for her. I couldn’t believe it when she read the whole thing by herself with no sign of tiredness and decoded all the words that she didn’t know and got 99% of them right. Wow amazing difference in her, she is full of confidence 🙂

Read a chapter today!

Jonah also told me today that his reading is definitely improving because he had to read a chapter of Charlotte’s Web today and although he only managed a page he managed to read many words that he previously couldn’t! His attitude seems to be extremely positive. He is feeling very proud of himself!

Would recommend to anyone!

We have benefit enormously from Easyread, particularly your help with eye-tracking. I would recommend the programme to anyone struggling with a child who is finding it hard to read.  My daughter is now reading very well.
