Parent Reviews of Easyread
Our most recent reviews:
Very pleased with his progress!
The program is going well. He still hurries through some of the words. I am working with him to take his time and pay attention to the characters and blank spaces. He is doing much better with reading the story and not getting frustrated with just the characters. Very pleased with his progress.
He is now confident reading at school at lesson 43
“I have noticed that Quinton is much more comfortable reading and decoding. He likes to read signs etc when we are out and is confident reading at school.
We have definitely noticed an improvement!”

Fostering his love of learning is more important than anything else we achieve here
“So far everything is going well. Coleman continues to love logging in to complete his lessons.
Although Coleman is improving on his spelling, fostering his love of learning is more important than anything else we achieve here!
He has already begun to transfer what he has learned with Easyread to his outside lessons.
Thanks.”

We are elated and amazed… at six weeks in.
Levi is doing great!! He read a chapter book cover to cover (I believe this was a first) and said he actually “heard” and understood what he was reading! He took a comprehension quiz on the book (required for school) and scored 9 out of 10 questions. I don’t believe that would have been the case six weeks ago.
We are elated and amazed. The lessons continue to be fairly easy for Levi. A huge confidence boost for him.
I do want to mention that during the eye tracking exercise where the words “not yet” move across the screen, I notice that Levi leans in so that his face is closer to the screen.
We are pleased with the improvement Levi has made over the six weeks with the Easyread program.
Now very excited to try to read!
Yes, I’m very satisfied with the program. Even my husband saw a big improvement regarding Tiago’s reading. Like I said, I’ve noticed also a change in his atitude towards reading. He is now very excited in trying to read things and doesn’t get frustrated, when he gets something wrong like he used to.
I like the fact that they are short lessons and thought through games . That keeps him motivated and doesn’t stress him out. Also the fact that it doesn’t allow us to try to do two lessons on the same day, which I did try to do it at first.
There’s nothing really that I don’t like.

Breakthrough Readers of September
by Maddie Rossmaur || 28 Nov 2016
Whether the school year was just beginning for our secret agents in the UK and the US, or school was already over half-way through for our Australian and New Zealand readers, some serious decoding could be heard all over the world!
Their determination and hard work paid off, as we heard of reading breakthroughs happening left, right and centre in September. Congratulations to you all and please join us in celebrating the successes of our Breakthrough Readers of September!
Matthew
10 year-old Matthew had begun reading in English this year in English/French immersion in Canada. His mum could see already that when he read, Matthew guessed a lot of the words, trying to imagine what was happening in the story to help him read the text. Being a very visual learner, he favoured books that were written in a pictorial way. As Matthew was relying on his visual memory to guess and recognise words, his reading fluency was often stilted and slow.
Around lesson 90, Matthew reached the top level in our reading assessor which is amazing as that means he can decode long, irregular words that around a 1/3 of adults would struggle with. And, they’re impossible to guess, which shows a great improvement in Matthew’s phonemic awareness. Well done Matthew!
Liana
When 7 year-old Liana began Easyread, her mum could tell she would often resort to guessing words – particularly when she wouldn’t even look at the word to read it…! Liana would often try and look up and remember the sound and shape of the word by isolating it in her memory. As a result of the way Liana had been reading, her spelling was phonetic, but accuracy took a hit.
Liana herself decided that after reaching the milestone of 100 lessons, she would prefer to continue reading the simple chapter books she had come to enjoy reading to her parents and her sister. We are confident that her spelling will continue to progress now that Liana is reading in a different, more accurate way. Her mum said “Liana has had an amazing adventure, and we are truly thankful for the amazing jump start to our daughters reading.”
Skye
7 year-old Skye would often guess words by looking at the first letter; eye-tracking difficulties meant she would skim over text, miss out words, and add letters in when decoding longer words. Her spelling was very phonetic as a result.
At around lesson 70, Skye did a Skype lesson with me, and I was so impressed by how fluently she read, hardly decoding any words now. Amazing! Skye is continuing to work on our recommended eye-tracking exercises, and building up her fluency by rereading tricky words. We can’t wait to hear about her spelling changes too!
Brennan
For some children, reading difficulties have meant that they are altogether put off the idea of reading, finding it all too stressful. Luckily, 9 year-old Brennan still enjoyed reading, even though he was assessed as being below his reading level for grade 3.
Rather than becoming stressed by sounding out words using tactics that didn’t seem to make sense for Brennan, he would prefer to skip the word instead. As Brennan tried to visualise each recognisable word in his brain, his reading fluency was impacted as a result. Longer, more unknown words proved to be difficult for Brennan, unable to use his guessing tactics to figure them out. As is quite common with highly visual learners, Brennan mixed up mirrored letters like b/d and p/q. The task of reading was made altogether more difficult with Brennan’s weak working memory.
Around lesson 125, Brennan’s mum told us that “his reading has improved and has become quite fluent as this reading level [in the programme].”
Amazing progress for Brennan, well done!
James
8 year-old James struggled with sight words before Easyread, often using his visual skills to guess at common words when they appeared. Using these tactics, James could read a word correctly, but would then forget it on the next page.
An eye-tracking weakness meant that James could appear to accurately guess recognisable words, but would not add the “ing”, “ed” or “er” to the end of the word, as his eyes skipped over the ending to the next word. Another indication that James had an eye-tracking weakness was the feeling of being overwhelmed when greeted with more than 2 sentences on a page.
James’s eye-tracking saw great improvements after completing 10 days of our eye-tracking exercises and, at around lesson 120, James finished up with the programme. His mum said: “He has enjoyed it every day, and I have found it has helped him greatly.”
Anne
Anne’s mum initially signed-up for Easyread as she was concerned about Anne’s spelling. However, when we got to find out a bit more about Anne’s reading and spelling experience, we found out that 10 year-old Anne did guess at words when reading. A history of hearing difficulties and short-term memory weakness also contributed to making the task of reading all the more difficult for Anne.
At around lesson 90, we were very excited to receive this message from Anne’s mum:
“About 3 weeks ago Anne started reading chapter books vociferously. She can spend most of a day reading.”
As Anne’s mum also mentioned Anne was still guessing the more challenging words, rather than taking the time to decode them, we sent Anne our eye-tracking exercises, which she continues to work on to help smaller text outside the programme feel just as comfortable to read as larger text on the screen.
Keep up the great work, Anne! We know she is taking her secret spy training very seriously…
If you feel like your child has reached the point of reading take-off and we haven’t included them this month, then do let us know, so we can send their badge out to them for this month. And do let us know if you’re having any worries around this stage too – we’re here to help every child achieve their breakthrough. And as always, congratulations to our Easyread graduates who completed the course with the achievement of their helicopter this month.
…
We chose Caleb as our Breakthrough Reader of September. After a long battle of reading and spelling difficulties, things are finally starting to change for Caleb…
Caleb
Caleb’s mum said that “reading has been a battle for Caleb for about six years” on signing up for Easyread. At 10 years-old, he was not yet reading fluently, and because he hadn’t quite cracked the code of reading, he was unable to make progress in spelling. Caleb’s mum said that they had spent a lot of time at home trying to help Caleb with his reading and spelling, with very little improvement. She said “Caleb tries very hard and always has”, but because Caleb hadn’t yet found a way of reading that made sense to him, the rewards of his hard work were not reaped. Caleb’s confidence in his learning abilities therefore took a hit.
After just 60 lessons of Easyread, Caleb’s mum told us during our level 2 phone chat that Caleb was already able to picture the Easyread characters above words outside the programme, which is just amazing to hear as we wouldn’t expect this to start happening until around lesson 90! He’s also making light work of our Space book – a very difficult non-fiction book indeed!
And a few weeks later, Caleb’s mum sent us this message: “Caleb is going really well. He is improving each night. Sometimes if we have a couple of nights break, he is a little slow and not as focused.
The last week or so I have definitely seen an improvement in the speed and accuracy of his reading and the way he is decoding and sounding out each word.”
Well done to all our Breakthrough Readers, and to all those working hard to get to reach that hallelujah moment!
Maddie and the Easyread team
Lou has started secondary school with far more confidence
“Thank you for all your help. Lou has started secondary school with far more confidence.
She is learning words faster than before and they appear to stick!
The program has fitted in well with our family life and other commitments. I wish every child struggling had access to it.
Your hard work really makes a difference with young peoples lives. We cannot thank you enough.
I will get Lou to write you a letter before she finishes the programme.” (Louise’s mum at the end of the course)
And a message from Lou, as promised…
thank you so so much for helping me through the course it has helped me a lot thank you again i am looking forward to the helicopter thank you – (11 year-old Louise)
Easyread has made our lives easy 🙂
“I would like to quote that Easyread has made our lives easy 🙂
Aqeel has improved a lot in reading and is trying to spell new words by decoding it. You people do excellent work!
Thank you once again.”

Easyread is the best reading system I have come across, both as a parent of a dyslexic child and as a primary school teacher
“Easyread is the best reading system I have come across, both as a parent of a dyslexic child and as a primary school teacher. It is very motivational, comprehensive and fun – both for the child and the instructor.
The Easyread training means that, through a series of short, easy to follow videos and quizzes, any parent or teaching assistant can be a effective support.
It’s the only reading scheme that my daughter has wanted to do and I would recommend it to any parent of a dyslexic child or primary school looking for a reading intervention system that really works!”

Kevin has been reading books to his younger brother the last few nights on his own initiative
“Kevin has been reading books to his younger brother the last few nights on his own initiative. So happy!”

Case Study: Shy 8 year old with low confidence now reads before bed
Just wanted to say a big thank you. A friend had suggested your programme when our son was 6 and at that time we decided against it. We struggled for two years with no reading gains even though he was doing Reading Recovery at school.
So in April 2016 at age 8 we bit the bullet and signed our son up for Easyread. Our son was very shy and withdrawn, called himself stupid and refused to read especially in front of anyone including his 5 year old sister.
I didn’t understand all the concepts at first and had to go through all the online tutorials for me (the adult). These were great and definitely necessary. Together we started the sessions.
It was hard at first to motivate him every day. Then after about 5 weeks he was asking for it! There did not seem to be much change and we hummed along.
Then something happened – gosh that sounds corny even when I am typing it – but something clicked. He went from level 1 in May to level 7 in July. He was asking to do sessions in front of people – grandparents and then even friends. He sat up straight at the computer and read aloud. He got a bit frustrated every now and then but the length of the sessions was perfect.
What really hit home for him too was the Skype sessions. Having someone from Easyread go through the session with him and provide him external confirmation that he was doing great was just what he needed. He is a very visual child so I let him look at the graphs in the admin zone. He loved seeing that you were following his every lesson and loved it even more when he could see his improvement.
Then in the August school holidays he wanted to buy a book – the 13 Storey Treehouse. He read the whole thing in 4 days. I could have cried. He then used his pocket money to buy the whole series. He reads them every night before bed.
This was something that I dreamed of for him and now I get to see it – and a big part of that is thanks to your programme. I will be an advocate of your programme, the programme itself is great but so too is your service, to the personalised letters and rewards along the way, to the Skype sessions and the messages – every bit motivated us and supported us to become the happy reading family we are today.
It has been such a joy to see her go from hating the thought of reading a book, to sitting down on the couch reading a book by herself without any prompt from me
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your excellent support and continued involvement in Sasha’s journey through this program.
During the process, I have learned so much about my daughter and her abilities and also about myself. It has been such a joy to see her go from hating the thought of reading a book, to sitting down on the couch reading a book by herself without any prompt from me.
It’s been an education for me too as I’ve gone through the parental tuition. I’ve gained insight into the physical processes associated with children who have reading problems.
It’s been so interesting. I will continue to highly recommend your program to anyone whose child has any kind of reading issues. It’s fun and it works. Thanks again.”

He is happier and I am happier knowing that he is still growing in confidence
“Cruz came home yesterday and said “mum I spelt both bottle and rumble right today in my writing” and today his teacher told me he is going up a reading level and he is writing more than he ever wrote before in class, and he is sounding out words to spell. I am very very happy and more importantly he is too.
I know it is early to see these results but I think the Spalding program (the school program) works very well into this system and I feel Cruz really needed the visuals which this supplies to make that system click. He is happier and I am happier knowing that he is still growing in confidence.
This has been a very successful week!”

Something that has surprised me is her huge improvement in confidence and how relaxed she is with her reading
“Emily [8 years-old] seems to be flying through the lessons at the moment and really enjoying it. If I forget about doing our daily lesson she always reminds me and get it all set up ready to go. She absolutely loves the book she reading at the moment in the reading section and is happy to do the last game after reading section, as she went through a stage that she didn’t want to do last game.
She still does a bit of guessing but not with the short simple words, more with a longer difficult word, and I have to remind her to slow down, decode and use pictures to help her. Is that still normal? Certainly shorter words she is confident and no guessing happening.
I haven’t seen huge improvement in her reading yet but I know that is still to come and that is ok, but something that has surprised me is her huge improvement in confidence and how relaxed she is with her reading, we’re not seeing the fidgeting, nervousness, anxiety and constant guessing she used to do. It’s great and so excited to see her progress.”

You changed her life and she became a writer!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the gift that your program gave Q.
I thought you might enjoy an update. She just finished reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy this summer–she is very proud. She is taking a short story writing class right now AND doing a November Novel Writing challenge (13,000 words–she’s half way!). In addition she started writing her own novel that is heavily influenced by Tolkien’s work (and last I remember she was on Chaper 14)…Thank you again–you changed Q’s life and she became a writer!
- Susan
She is very proud of herself!
Riley is still enjoying Easy Read which is great. At day 43 reading is still difficult for Riley but she enjoys Easy Read and is very proud of herself for committing to the program. She is aware that between day 60 and 90 reading will feel a lot easier for her so she is looking forward to getting to that point.
She really enjoys the games and we very much liked the book of jokes!
Teacher has mentioned improvement!
So far Justin really enjoys easyread (at Lesson 45) and I enjoy that he is so eager to do it, it is not a fight to get him to do it and they are short so it leaves him wanting more instead of getting tired of it. His teacher has mentioned improved reading in the class so that is exciting however he has not gotten to the point where he will willing pick up a book and read. Which is where I am hoping he will get to!
Marquez is reading Harry Potter after 100 lessons of Easyread!
“Thank you thank you! Truly we are done with Easyread and we are forever grateful! Marquez just picked up his first chapter book of his choice, to read for pleasure, and hardly gets stuck on any words (well, it’s Harry Potter so he needs help with some of the more magical ones 😉 and we owe it to this program! We recommend it to everyone we know who has a child struggling to read. Thank you so much!” – Marquez’s parents
And here Marquez is, reading Harry Potter after 100 lessons of Easyread! Amazing!
3 year reading age gain…
Before EasyRead Emily struggled to decode words and she was guessing a lot of words based on content and pictures more than I think she was actually reading. Half way thru 3rd grade she was still reading at the beginning of 1st grade level. She didn’t like to read and tried to avoid it as much as possible.
EasyRead has been a perfect fit for Emily. She likes the quick and short lessons. I have never seen any low experience. There are days when she doesn’t want to do it, because it is more fun to watch TV, ride her bike or play with friends. But once she is in front of the computer she does it with ease with a smile on her face.
Emily is now in 4th grade and are reading on 4th grade level. The last state test she took she scored above average for all 4th graders in our district. She still struggles with her spelling. Has a hard time to hear the sounds. But lately she loves to write. She can sit for hours and write stories. I hope that her spelling will improve as much as her reading did!
His teacher can’t believe it…
This was an email that I received from Cannon’s teacher yesterday. We are so thankful for this amazing program!
“Wow, can I say how impressed I was today with Cannon’s progress! That program you are having him do is really working. The testing I am supposed to be doing with him that we discussed in his conference has had great results! His first score was a 21, then a 41, and a 57 this last week. The end of the year goal is a 58, so with the progress I am seeing, he is doing much better. I also tested him on some sight words today and he breezed through them! I plan on testing him for his reading level tomorrow and will let you know the progress. Keep it up mom! He is doing great! :)”
A phenomenal program!!!
The course has been amazing! We have seen her grow so much in the past 8 months. She is now able to decode most words correctly. Spelling has improved. I do not know what we would have done had we not found EasyRead because we were at a loss of how to help her! I do think maybe as the courses progress that introduction of new games would be nice. Oddly enough in the past 30 or so lessons Mya and I both struggled on the character only page. I guess as she decoded more we needed the characters less and we’re less familiar with them. For us removal of that page maybe after 140 would have been good. Otherwise I think u guys have a phenomenal program!!! Thank you so much!!
Can a change really happen this quickly!?
“Just a quick update to say, Betsy now has her glasses and last night she wanted to read a whole page of our bedtime story (an (Enid Blyton mystery book – which is a proper chapter book with small text) and she did great. I am really seeing a new approach to her reading and she is sounding out new words instead of guessing 🙂 Can a change really happen this quickly!?”
BIG changes for 6 year-old Betsy at lesson 13. Seeing is believing…
He has been reading from books daily!
Ryan has been reading from books daily. He is doing better still struggling but it is getting better each day. Thank you for all your help, EasyRead has made a significant difference in his ability to read. We are so thankful that we found your program!
Lucy wrote a birthday card and spelt every word correctly!
8 year-old Lucy, taking the world be storm at lesson 22!
“Lucy wrote a card to my mum for her birthday at the weekend, she did it by herself and every word was spelt correctly!! We normally have to try and work out what it says! I know she still has a long way to go but we were all so pleased. She said she even looked up ‘much’ in the dictionary because she wasn’t sure if it had an e on the end! I’m not sure she has ever voluntarily picked up the dictionary before let alone on her own.
She loves showing off how well she can read when its just the characters and no letters and amazing everyone in the family!”
The staff genuinely cares about Aaron…
Easyread has been a fun and easy way to help Aaron learn to decode words. I have found all the online support for parents wonderful and feel like the staff genuinely cares about Aaron and wants to help him become a good reader.
