Parent Reviews of Easyread

Our most recent reviews:

Reading take-off!

Within the last month I have seen her take off and I think in is a strong connection to the Easyread Program paving a new foundation for her…We really enjoyed it, it was SO helpful to our whole family.

Move up 2 grade levels in reading!

I am happy with Sophia’s progress. She started the year at a high grade 1 and is now in a grade 3 level reading book…YAY!

Eye-tracking success!

I have had an “awesome ” improvement and I am finding the reading easer. If I look at something for too long I still get a little blur, but I still can read way easer. So thank you.

Moved up another reading level at school!

We’ve just finished the Easyread Accelerator. I think it’s been a big success and Thomas has just been moved up another reading level at school, so thanks for your help!

We were at our wits end…

My boys did the easy read course last year.
We were at our wits end at what to do with our eldest Robert then 10.  He was a clearly bright boy failing at school and was getting so angry about it that we felt he was about to fall into huffy refusal and perhaps even into delinquency.   Ironically, he loved books and always had, he could memorize an entire book, but he had strange problems reading – he could do the big words but got all the little words wrong.  Bizarre.  Totally bizarre.
Of course, we asked the teachers what the problem was but they just kept telling us to practise.  We did, over and over, but it was always the same.   In the end, we thought he must be dyslexic (its in the family) and had him tested by the local university.  Yes, he came back as IQ 130 but slightly dyslexic.  The next question was what does dyslexic actually mean and how do we solve it?
It was googling about dyslexia when I stumbled on David youtubing.  AT LAST someone else describing Robert’s reading style; gets the big words right and the little words wrongI CANT TELL YOU THE RELIEF.  Emboldened by the offer of money back (they must be confident – right) we signed up the next day.  The mood of the whole house changed instantly.  I think that Robert knew that he had a problem & he felt optimism and relief that there was a way to sort it out.  Alex couldn’t bear to be left out of the fun so we signed him up too.
The course was really fun.  The boys loved their sessions. We did it everyday, it was our priority.  The first shock was that they needed the eye tracking exercises, particularly Alex.  What a difference that made.  Alex’s teachers knew that something had happened – they didn’t know what – when he came back from the holidays we’d done the exercises in.
Shock number two was that on Easyread’s urging we took Robert to the behavioural optometrist and discovered that he needed coloured lenses; green thank goodness, not pink..
Then I would say two weeks after the start of the true part of the course, Robert’s reading improved.  Just like that.  It improved.  We kept going on the course and his spelling improved too.  Not perfect but SO SO SO much better. He now goes to school and he doesn’t look noticeably more tired that his class mates at the end of the day as he used to. His confidence and attitude have both improved enormously.  His reading aloud is not perfect but I no longer think of him as being dyslexic. The school kept back his work to show to OFSTED.   We buy books in sets and have 8-10 books at a go from the library.  The funny thing is that he has such a way with words and an amazing imagination that I wonder if he will become an author.  Alex meanwhile is a fabulously good reader but rather slow and is quite a good speller.
Finally shock number 3 was that I discovered that nonsense words have sounds and my spelling has improved!  I guess that I needed a bit of the ‘ole magic too (PhD physics Oxford).  Never too well qualified to learn some more..
So there we have it.  Easyread really did change our lives.  I often wonder what would have happened if we hadn’t found the course.  Would we ever have twigged that the “issue” for Robert was actually a jigsaw of three parts; a light sensitivity, an eyetracking weakness and a failure to connect with phonics?  I doubt it.  Would Alex have gone through his entire life without discovering that he needed rather trivial eye training?  A boy with a massive IQ undermined because his eyes didn’t back and forth very well.  Would Robert have become a frustrated, bitter, no-hoper by aged 12?
Fortunately, we will never know.
And for that, we will be forever grateful.
Sincerely yours,
Debra

this was the best decision I had made…

This is just a quick note to say that my daughter Nicola started Easyread in the reception class and I have a feeling that this was the best decision I had made.
Nicola was born in August and started the school as the youngest pupil in the class. I firmly believe that the fact that she is constantly praised for being a great reader (now Year 2) is owed to her Easyread sessions, specially that both her parents are not English native speakers.
I cannot not to mention David’s and his staff’s wholehearted involvement in the tuition, they are just splendid and there is definitely a passion in what they are doing.
Best regards,
Monika

I have absolutely no reservations in endorsing the Easyread system…

I have absolutely no reservations in endorsing the Easyread system and have strongly recommended this to several people already.  My son was just turning 9 years old when we started the programme and had made minimal progress at school with his reading.  He was receiving teacher-aide time, and we were paying for a private tutor; we read with him daily and went through lists of sight words – nothing seemed to make any difference.  He was unable to sound out the most basic words and once he had deciphered one he was not able to then read the same word if it came up again on the next line.  The entire process was demoralising, it felt punitive and we were desparate for something to help him and us.  He is a bright lad and was feeling more distressed at his own lack of progress.  The Easyread programme was something that we comfortably fitted into our daily routine and by the end of it Isaac’s reading had moved up 8 (or 9 – I would need to double check) levels at school.  He had only moved up 4 levels in the four years of attending school before commencing this programme.  He wasn’t guessing at words any more and there was a flow to his reading.  Now he is able to pick reading books that are of interest to him and I am astounded at the difference and I still feel very emotional listening to him read.  I am so incredibly grateful to David and the entire team for their support and good advice and feel very fortunate that we found this programme when we did.  We had also worked on Isaac’s eye tracking with exercises provided by a Behavioural Optometrist but it was only the intensive eye tracking exercises and tips provided by Easyread that actually sorted this problem out.
We had always been told, by different professionals, that Isaac learns differently and that we need to provide the information differently – we just had no idea how we were to do that – until we stumbled across this programme whilst endlessly searching on-line for help.  It would be great for all children identified as struggling emergent readers to work through the Easyread system.

I freely admit that I was skeptical…

When we first made contact with Easyread, I freely admit that I was skeptical. I like to understand how things work and so was not reassured when the Easyread team told me there was no clinical trial data, nor even an understanding of how the Easyread approach actually helps children. The school SENCO and educational psychologist were equally skeptical. But we were fairly desperate by then, had tried most other avenues, and were persuaded by the money-back guarantee, and the experience of other parents. After all, what had we got to lose ? We were determined to give the course a fair trial, and so persisted in the sessions, although in truth this was hardly onerous as our son enjoyed them. It is brilliant that they are limited to 10 minutes per day.
We have very nearly finished the whole course now. And what a difference ! I don’t think our son will ever be an enthusiastic reader, which saddens me because both my wife and I believe there is much joy to be gained from reading. But he has become a much more competent and confident reader. He still skips over the occasional word and fails to gain comprehension when he gets tired, but he is so much better now than he was. The difference is like chalk and cheese – he is no longer intimidated by written pages, and is happy to get stuck in by himself.
And my learning ? You don’t have to understand how something works if it does. Just accept that it does, and enjoy.
Our sincere thanks to David and his remarkable and dedicated team.
Yours sincerely,
Michael

The program was a complete success…

My son entered the third grade with a beginning level of a second grader per the lexile score.  He used easy read for one year and in that time progressed to beyond the third grade level. In fourth grade, due to this program teaching and learning style, he has remained average and above average for his reading comprehension level.  I was so impressed I recommended this to other parents with children struggling with reading and reading comprehension.  I truly researched for any program that was convenient and fun for him to use and chose the easyread program. Even though he did miss some days due to computer issues, the program was a complete success and I would continue to recommend this program to any parent who has a child that seems to be suffering in this area.

Wanted to let you know how much my family like easy read…

Wanted to let you know how much my family like easy read. We use it for both our daughters, one of whom has dyslexia. Our chidren are bilingual – swedish and english speaking – but found it much harder to learn to read English.
The way easyread has a symbol for each sound plus the games means it is easy to get them to practice.  We continue along even though they both read quite well as it helps so much with english spelling.
I think the system is great. I only wish they had one for teens as I know friends with older dyslexic kids would love to have the help.

Susan

This super on-line course made an amazing difference…

This super on-line course made an amazing difference in my twin boys reading abilities improving their reading ages a whole year in 6months. Other interventions (such as just daily reading and extra help at school) sadly did little to make any difference. This course really does deliver. The course does require a short daily commitment but    It is presented in a fun way with rewards sent through the post which the boys loved. I have no hesitation in giving this course five stars.
Kind regards
Jill

Two of our year7 (age 12) students have made excellent progress…

Working with Easyread , two of our year7 (age 12) students have made excellent progress. In 5 months their Easyread test levels have improved from reading level 3 and 4  to level 8, and their spelling from level 1 to 2 and level 2 to 4.
Easyread have been very helpful with prompt advice and answers to any questions we had. Most importantly our students have been happy to use Easyread  frequently, with its short sessions  and  games.
Their independent reading and spelling confidence have increased as they enjoyed success.
One improvement we would welcome would be to see Easyread   introduce characters and stories  more suited to older/ mature students, as secondary school pupils can be reluctant to engage with nursery tales and characters.

As a former teacher and headteacher, I wish more children could benefit…

I paid for my two grandsons to take the course, beginning autumn 2012. They were aged 6 and 7 at the time they started. Both were very premature – 8 weeks +. This resulted in basic problems with retained reflexes, poor co-ordination and a family history of dyslexia. One has mixed dominance, requires glasses, speech therapy. The other appeared immature particularly with his movement. He has tinted glasses for school work. Support from Easyread clarified some of the issues and offered a way forward.

For them Easyread was the platform into reading. They have both learned very good phonic approaches to breaking down words. This transferred easily to their spelling. While it took time and commitment and they are not yet reading quite at their chronological age they are confident to approach reading and spelling, work hard in school and remain motivated and making very good progress. We are confident that this coming session in school will see them building on very solid foundations and finally able to reach their potential.

They enjoyed an outing to the “Borders Book Festival” in June and interacted well with all the authors.

We are impressed with the “Easyread” programme and the interaction with the staff there. The boys motivation levels were kept high with the games and the surprise gifts. As a former teacher and headteacher, I wish more children could benefit from their strategies because they are successful.

Mari

Miracle! What a gift…

We really are so grateful for Easyread – I found myself recommending it to yet another person the other day. Its a marvel to us that both boys are easily able to read”tricky” words without ever having to sweat to learn them and they both love reading now – Elijah the most (more is the miracle), in fact he is reading a book right now and its so exciting I can’t get him to stop. I am convinced that he if he had been forced to learn the more traditional route he could have been ruined for reading for life. What a gift to give him.

It's a brilliant program

Reana did the first of the last ten lessons today and was so pleased when she heard the applause and really enjoyed the fact and the riddle. I want you and your team to know how much Easyread has helped her, her reading now would not be as good it is without the lessons she has done and without your support. It’s a brilliant program to help children read, I am really proud of Reana as she has stuck with this for nearly a year and a half and I can see how much her reading and her enthusiasm for reading has changed in that time. Thank you.

Easyread was fun!

I thought Easyread was fun. My favorite part was the games especially Fighter Mission and Spotter.

I also thought the story about Ungar was good. I thought is was funny the way they used their beds to go down the river bed.

Thanks,
Jeremiah

She LOVES reading now.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We have continued to LOVE the program and continued to see progress in Quinley’s reading and spelling. Last year she was lost when she didn’t know a hymn during the Christmas church service–this year she was reading along and singing!! She was breezing through a picture book so fast this morning that I said, “You’re not reading that are you?” and she looked surprised and said that “yes,” she was! She LOVES reading.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Very pleased with her progress!

She is starting to try and sound out words that she sees in her environment for the first time. She will try to sound out signs to us when we are driving, etc. I am very pleased with her progress. She can read the pages with the images only MUCH better than I can!

Very satisfied with Easyread

We are very satisfied with Easyread. Collette has made improvements. She is starting to look at books by herself now.

Alex read a text out word perfect!

I received a text message on my phone tonight and Alex brought it to my attention by reading out loud to me and it was word perfect. This is the first time he has ever done this and it was typed correctly, not text speak!

Reading take-off tonight!

My little Easyreader begged to be allowed to read “Foolish Jack and the Beanstalk” to herself in bed tonight…. This is a first, and I think we are experiencing reading take off!! Thanks Easyread Team!!!

No longer diagnosed dyslexic!

Dear David and staff,

Thank you so much for all that you have done for Claudia – her reading is amazing and she is doing so well at School. They initially thought that Claudia was dyslexic, but they can now find no evidence of this – I believe down to you and your learning solution. She is a confident reader and attempts words through her de-coding methods that she has learnt with you. I cannot praise you enough and will continue to recommend you and ‘EasyRead’ to all those that I meet where their children have reading difficulties.

Thank you again to all of you – we already miss you (and your voice) in the mornings as this became such a routine for us before going to school!

P.S. Claudia is with me as I type this and has asked me to wish you ‘Merry Christmas Love Claudia x’

Her teacher is thrilled!

I wanted to share with you an email I received today from Evelyn’s reading support teacher:

“I wanted to let you know that I have seen a big change in Evelyn the past couple of weeks. She is really working hard and is doing well at following along with our activities at the pace of the lesson. Previously that was something that was difficult for her to do. Evelyn also scored 18/20 on our last unit check up test!!!!! While this is not a “grade” for her, it does show growth. I am so proud of her!!”

These improvements are thanks to you and your system. I appreciate all your efforts!!
