Big improvements – school has noticed!
Hi Sarah,
I spoke to Liam’s teacher this week. They re-ran a reading and spelling test with Liam which they had done May last. Last may Liam was testing well below average. This week his results showed to be just slightly below average. But with big and noticeable improvements being made. I am very pleased with the results and am hoping with continued use of easy read to bring Liam up to above average by year end. We haven’t been able to do much Easyread in the last two weeks as we had to unexpectedly travel to Germany due to a death in the family. But this weekend we will restart our daily lessons! I have passed on the Easyread link to the schools learner support department and they seemed very interested in looking at it more closely.
He wrote me a note for the first time!
[after Lesson 6] He just sat here and wrote out a note to me. He was saying the word and then sounding it out…which trust me that is something he does not usually do. He rarely writes a note to begin with, let alone sit and sound out a word! He misspelt one word but otherwise the rest were all correct. “R” has always been a challenging sound for him – he often misses it in a word, then misses it writing that word. During the early days in Davis he would leave it out of words altogether. But with your picture – which he finds really amusing being snot and all – the r is really making sense for him! So well done on catering to a boy’s fascination! It’s working for him:)
Gone up 4 reading levels at school!
Thomas has just gone up 4 reading levels at school so I think the system has definitely helped Thomas decode words and see patterns in them. His fluency is a lot better and as a result his confidence has increased hugely! I love that the sessions are only 15 minutes a day and are FUN.
Huge spelling improvement!
Yesterday Jeremiah wrote a little story about afield trip we took last week. i am excited to report that in 202 words he ONLY had 9 true misspellings. This is a huge improvement! He did use an electronic dictionary but only looked up a few words.
He is so proud of himself and I am one happy mom!
Thanks again for all your support!
Helping self-esteem greatly
We are finding Easyread to be working for us really well. Joe is responsive to the lesson time (likes it short!) and the positive reinforcement. It is good he is finding success with reading as it helps his self esteem greatly. He often changes demeanour when he makes a mistake or stumbles over a word, and can need encouragement to stay positive and on task.
Reading more confidently!
My daughter seems to be reading outside of the Easyread more confidently, seemingly without realizing that she is reading. During Easyread lessons she will read outloud but very quietly so hopefully in the next 6 weeks I will see her improve there also. Thanks so much love the short lessons by the way, she does them without any complaint!!
This is "reading take off!"
We are so encouraged by Elijahs reading….I think we are experiencing “reading take off” as you have described. He is devouring Diary of a Wimpey Kid like there is no tomorrow and we now have a battle on our hands to get him to turn his light off. I think to date he is on his 3rd book I the series. Wonderful!
Already helping Elizabeth, in 5 lessons!
This program is already helping build Elizabeth’s confidence and improving her reading in such a short time, she is already telling me that she is not guessing the words and that she is sounding them out and she is excited. So thank you!
Let me tell you about Easyread, by Henry
Hi David and Sarah
Let me tell you about Easyread. You have been helping me all the way through Easyread thank you for that. I have learnt so much in the last couple of months. I hope you can teach other children to read just like me because I am so good at reading now. I hope some other children around the world or the UK read just like me.
You have helped me so far I am very happy that you have taught through the lessons. Thank you very much for teaching me all the days, months and hours you have put in for my reading.
when I started I couldn’t decode very well and now I can decode words quiet fast. I loved every second of doing this Easyread even when I said I didn’t want to do it. From the start it felt like there were too many hard words in Easyead. At first i could hardly read books and now i can read some hard words, i can decode and i just really love picking up a book and starting to read it.
It feels great to pick up a book and start reading. At first i would give myself 1.5 out of ten for reading now i would give myself 7 out of ten.

I feel like a whole new speller!
Hey David 🙂
Its Tori here, I would just like to say easy spell has helped me so so so much. I have just started my new school Lavant House in chichester, and am so, relieved that I can spell much better, because i honestly was a little worried, about being at the bottom.
I now feel like like a whole new speller thanks to you xxxx
I aIso just wanted to ask this MAY sound rude and I’m sorry if it does but, when will my next prize come.
Its only because i have only had one this whole project and at the end cross my finger now for one. So i was just hoping it would be soon HINT HINT.
Thankyou for all you have done for me and grace we both being besties have gone through it together and couldn’t thank you more.
LOTS OF HAPPY SPELLING
LOVE TORI

Confident with your helping hands!
Welcome back. Did you have a nice holiday? I think David will be very glad to have you back. Yes the glasses are very exciting for us. Still feeling a bit guilty though that it has taken me 2 years to get them sorted. Thank God for David’s Easyread. Jay really never complained about his eyes. He just misbehaved and wouldn’t focus :(( ouch!
I had taken him to other assessments but apparently they were just not qualified to diagnose the problem. It is a pity there is so much out there and so much mysticism about reading problems! Arrgh..
It is amazing how much more confident I am feeling with your helping hands.
Big change
I know it’s working. Last night she read an early reader book that we were struggling through 12 months ago. The text is very unpredictable and doesn’t easily allow guessing. She read it quietly to herself, and then aloud to me. Whenever it “tricked” her and she realized it didn’t say what she expected, she immediately reverted to blending with no prompting from me. This is a big change. She use to just look at me and say “I don’t know that one.”
Caught up to his peers!
Hi, even though it is early days we are definitely seeing progress with Jordan’s reading – he has gone up 3 levels in reading in the classroom since he started the program and actually skipped one level because he was catching up to his peers so quickly.
We did also find out that he needed to wear reading glasses at this time which of course also helped but this program has most definitely boosted his reading confidence. He is now just slightly behind what is expected of him in his reading for his age and is now on par with quite a few other kids in his class which is also helping to boost his confidence.
Starting this program whilst he was still in Kindergarten, whilst he definitely has found it much harder than his 7 year old brother, it has also meant that he is able to catch up to the reading level of his peers a lot quicker and I can definitely see that by the end of the year Jordan should be at the reading level that is expected of him.
Something awesome happened on Sunday…
Sarah and David,
I just wanted to let you know about something awesome that happened to Nathan on Sunday. He started back to his Sunday school lessons at our church and they have the kids take turns reading the lessons out loud. Nathan normally asks to be skipped and the teachers have obliged him and skipped him. He told his father and I yesterday that he actually raised his hand to read and read well. We asked him why and he said that his friend Ben had raised his hand and he wanted to be like Ben. He is definitely feeling more confident and we are so grateful to Easyread for giving him that confidence!!!
Bless you and your good work!
Cindy
Sad and happy that I’m finishing
Hi David,
I feel sad and happy that its about to finish. I have found it easy and sometimes hard, especially when I am feeling tired.
Easy read has helped me to be a better reader than when I started. Ethan

All is going swimmingly!
All is going swimmingly. Henry enjoys his lessons and he is reading SO well already! He still wants me to read for him (signs, wrappers, etc), but I push it back and force him to try and he does SO very well. Thank you!! Love this program and I’m telling friends.
Case Study: Highly verbal but dyslexic…
Before Easyread
Before Easyread, Bas struggled. His parents worked hard trying to help him revise the basics, but nothing stuck. Reading became an ordeal for the whole family, and Bas was feeling worse and worse about himself. As the child of both a university lecturer and a television producer, Bas is highly articulate when he speaks. So it was baffling for his parents to figure out what was going on with the reading. They tried counselling, and had him tested for dyslexia. For two years Bas tested different approaches and theories of learning. None of it worked. He made it through prep and grade one and then by the start of grade two had reached a point where his mother Eloise was losing sleep over his reading. And Bas had written himself off as stupid.
Then one late night Eloise found a link to Easyread online.
During Easyread
Easyread almost immediately took the pressure off Bas, even though the family came into it with a little bit of “emotional baggage” from the reading trauma in years past. Bas was giving up at even the first hint of failure; and his parents found it hard not to show anger or frustration at his resistance. The short lessons, the insistence on stopping after a set time, and the de-emphasising of success or failure were something entirely new to the family. Easyread starts by retraining parents on how to make learning a positive experience, where mistakes don’t mean the end of the world. That was key for Bas’ parents, because once the pressure was lifted, Bas started showing more interest in reading.
Almost straight away Bas was accomplishing. The repetition of starting and finishing a lesson every day built his confidence. There was, to start with, a bit of resistance at having to always decode, especially as his confidence grew. But any kind of persistent guessing meant that Easyread finished early, much to Bas’ frustration. “Decode, decode, decode,” soon became a morning mantra. “what do you have to do before school Bas?” “Brush my teeth, pack my lunch and decode,” was the correct response!
Bas loved the spy school theme of Easyread and the rewards that turn up in the mail box too, but what especially worked was David’s lovely voice. Easyread felt consistent and personal for Bas and his parents. Eloise describes it as if “every morning we gave David a call and he walked Bas through the day’s lesson.” Easyread also set up phone meetings to discuss the progress, so it felt obvious that the staff really cared about Bas and his outcome.
For example, the Easyread team discovered that Bas needed to have his eyes tested. It was something that never occurred to Eloise at the time, though it turned out that Bas is quite short sighted, and needs glasses for close up reading work.
After Easyread
In 7 months he’s gone from crisis to confidence. Bas is now a reader! In February he was a year behind his other classmates and stalling. As of September he’s reading at an average level for his grade. The improvements have happened exactly when Easyread predicted they would. Also, his writing has gone from poor (he could write his name, but not really construct sentences) to somewhere in the middle of his age group, simply as a side effect of his improved reading.
This July he became interested in jokes and started reading them to anyone he could: to relatives, to friends, at dinner parties. This amazed his parents, because in January he refused to read anything, let alone to any kind of audience.
His mother, Eloise, on Easyread:
“The Easyread system is so simple and so clever and kind of sneaks up on you; it seems too simplistic, like learning to read couldn’t actually be that easy after two plus years of hard struggle… And there is something wonderful about watching your child recognise their own improvement. There is nothing like suddenly realising that you can’t remember the last time your child called himself stupid. As of lesson 106 Bas continues to go from strength to strength and we’re all really excited to see just where Easyread takes him. Right now from our perspective it feels like the sky’s the limit as to what Bas might do next!”
Reading Harry Potter now!
Just wanted to tell you that Luca read Harry Potter’s 5th book and is a few chapters shy of finishing the 6th book over the summer and now loves to read! We are so thrilled! I was just cleaning up his room and found the very cool binoculars you sent to him and thought you’d like to know about his progress. The fart machine is still his all time favorite, however. Thanks EasyRead!
Easyread has helped me to read really well…
Easyread has helped me to read really well. Today at school we had to read some Ben 10 and my friends got stuck and went “urr?” but I could read it. I feel much cleverer now and it helps me with lots of things.
Love Will
Kian's speech and language also improved

Khi's reading confidence has definitely grown due to…
Khi’s reading confidence has definitely grown due to this program. At school he is now sounding out any words he doesn’t know – something he wouldn’t even attempt before this program – and can now read his homework sheets all by himself which is a huge achievement for Khi!
