Delighted, 5 stars!…

Thank you ever so much for the presents you have sent to Saket. Saket is delighted with his Spyware and he likes the lessons so much. He wants me to give 5 stars for this programme! Thank you.

Easyread has become my lifeline…

Easyread has become my lifeline…literally!! Our relationship is so much better as lesson’s/homework are not ending in tears and with both of us stressed. Shane’s confidence has rocketed and I see a steady improvement from week to week. I hope that this continues. Thank you.

Much more peaceful household!

Hello, I would like to give you an update on Mary Ann’s progress after six weeks into the program.

Mary Ann is re reading the lines of the story until it is fluent. (almost fluent on first try, always on second).

We saw a remarkable jump in Mary Ann’s reading progress at the 30 day point in the program. She is 8 years old and has in the past treated chapter books like toxic waste (no pictures), but we’ve read three together in the past two weeks! We trade out chapters. At thirty days she suddenly started to sound out everything, even sight words she’s had memorized for the past three years. It is like being with a different child.

But the biggest difference we’ve seen is that she no longer goes into total angry, sullen mode every time we mention reading. She is a very happy, easy going child and yet reading was the big bone of contention between us for two years. I don’t know how or why, but Easyread is always no big deal, she is always happy to do it, so, frankly, I don’t much care how you do it!! We are in a much more peaceful household now.

Your research seems to show that a big jump in progress usually takes place at the 90 day mark. If it gets better than it is so far I cannot wait for that.

Wow!

Nathan is doing well and has to read a minimum of 5 chapter books a week for school. He is doing well and his reading fluency is really picking up. He says the stories with easy read are boring now and with so much expected for school I just told him to focus on his school books for now.
Easy read has been such a blessing and he has done so well. He even tested in a third grade reading level at the beginning of the school year. Last year at the beginning of 2nd grade he tested in a kindergarten level. Wow!

A much greater sense of pride again. Yay!…

Using the patch on his lazy eye, as the Behavioural Optometrist suggested, is making such a difference to Cameron’s lessons! He seems to be reading more easily, is less likely to guess and has got a much greater sense of pride again. Yay!

In other news, his teacher is still doing after-hours help at school with Cameron and I’m happy to say he’s gone from level 17 to level 21 in the last couple of months, after only moving one level the whole rest of the year!

Reading take off…

Celeste’s reading has really taken off now. In fact she can hardly put her
books down!

Above all she is still enjoying it…

Just a little feedback on Hiral and how she is progressing. I feel that she is doing well. She is still struggling (or rather being lazy!) about the decoding at times. We try and repeat the lines twice until she is fluent with them. She finds the Letter quest game a bit challenging but overall I think she is doing well. Above all she is still enjoying it and loves her gifts and is always looking forward to them. Her teacher thinks that she is making progress however of course still needs to work at it.

Thank you for everything

I have been with the Easyread system for nearly 9 months now and would like to thank you for all you have done for my son in helping him with his reading. He has come on leaps and bounds with his reading but far more importantly his confidence has soared as well. The support I have had has been wonderful from all the team- you all do a fantastic job.
Thanks again for all your help over the past few months – it really has made a huge difference.
Regards, H

It made my day as a teacher, and his, and his parents!

Firstly, can I say how impressed I am already! Tom is responding really well to his Easyread lessons and I have seen his confidence rocket in a few short sessions. He achieved 100% accuracy today when he played the game at the end of his session – this was a very special moment for him and seeing him experience success was a real tissues and lump in the throat moment. He said ‘I’ve never had a 100% at reading before’ It made my day as a teacher, and his, and his parents!

Dear David…

Dear David…
I feel so happy I can read so well. I do not need so much help any more. I am a still a spy working out all the codes. I don’t guess any more and just love reading books.
Thank you David and the team for helping me.
Lots of love Agent H

Top of the class…

Milan is doing really well this year in English. He just had his report for the half term and his is in the top part of the class. He also enjoys the new Spellrace game in level 5 and we will try to do it more often, now that he is on a holiday.

Well thought out program

I think the program is well thought out and well planned. I like the basic methodology behind the program. The rewards are a very important component for motivation and fun.
The support is very individualized which is a strong element in this program.
I am just hoping it will make a difference for Z.

All well…

All is going well for J and he is making excellent progress at school. I have a parents meeting next Thursday when I will know more, but I have had some very very encouraging verbal reports from his teachers during this half of the term.
Yes, he does currently find the reading text more challenging than the games.

Jumped 2 Grade Levels!

Good news! Devin has jumped two grade levels in his reading at school! He took a test for reading last week and scored at the top of the class! His teacher even made an announcement to the class and had them give him a round of applause! The improvements he has made in the last five months have been amazing.

Thank you for all your coaching and support, this is a wonderful program that is working very well for our family.

Sincerely,
E.

Quite pleased so far…

(At 6 weeks) I am quite pleased with the progress so far. Though C is still trying to guess some words his reading in general got much better and fluent and also the teachers appreciate that we take the time to do Easyread.

The other day C suggested for his friend to start Easyread so that he too could become a spy. When I said that not all children needed extra help with their reading he replied that he didn’t do it because he needed help but because he liked it! This shows that it is not a problem to do the lessons on a regular base and because he gained confidence it also got much easier to get him to do his homework for school.

At the moment we are in the middle of doing the eye tracking exercises. Hopefully this will also make it easier for him.

One thing that would be helpful is if Easyread was possible to do on a tablet device.

Dear David

Dear David,
I feel quite happy for doing all the levels.
Easyread has helped me to read really well!

Thank you for your help!

From Z!

The penny has dropped…

Jack has progressed from level 18 to level 22 with his reading at school, which we were more than pleased with given that we  were aiming for level 20 for the end of the year. He started year one on level 10, in April he went to level 13, July level 18, September level 20, then retested level 22. His school also has him doing ‘multi-lit’ three mornings a week. I think we also have the eye-tracking sorted out now too.

Only just recently do I think that the penny has dropped with the sounds and characters in the lessons.

I cannot believe the difference this has made!

I cannot believe the difference this has made in my son’s life! Justin is now going to his room and reading aloud for the fun of it. The books are Dr. Suess, which is a little easy for a child in 2nd grade, but he is enjoying reading. This was my goal!!! He is also spelling words much more easily too. He even asked me to by a chapter book. He reads a paragraph or two then I read a few pages. He is comprehending the book and very proud of himself.

Thanks again,
J.

Improved dramatically across all subjects…

I had parents evening today and half way through I had to ask if we were talking about the same child! His teachers are really pleased with his progress and his confidence has improved dramatically across all subjects. His reading was assessed at the start of term as 8 years 10 months, not too far behind his real age of 9 years and 2 months. Compare this with last years assessment and it was 5 years 10 months!! I’m really pleased with his progress so far.

Long may it continue!

Hi there I just wanted to share with you that Natalie is making some real progress and tonight as well as Easyread she insisted on finishing her school reading book (which had 22 pages!) to herself. She seemed to be really enjoying it and made some great attempts at sounding out and getting many words that just a few weeks ago she wouldn’t have been able to read. I’m sure Easyread has a big part to play in this and it’s great to see her confidence growing. Long may it continue!

We could not be more pleased with Easyread…

We could not be more pleased with Easyread. We have seen Brody’s confidence grow in leaps and bounds. He used to cry when it was time to read, and now he reminds me that he needs to do his Easyread. He absolutely loves getting prizes in the mail. It has really given him motivation to try hard. We are so happy that we are starting to see progress in his reading ability!
Thank you,
A.

She is now a very confident reader who loves gobbling up books…

Aran finished the Spellrace level a few weeks ago and I meant to write to you and all the team at Easyread to THANK YOU for all the support and guidance over the last 18 months or so.

Aran is now a very confident and competent reader for her age. She loves reading and if she could she will spend all night gobbling up books.

Many thanks again,

Case Study: Poor working memory

The Problem

Remembering words was always difficult for Sam, and before long it was clear he was in big trouble.

Before age 5 nothing seemed to separate Sam from his classmates developmentally. Mum Lisa began to have some doubts about her son’s ability to interact with written letters whilst in pre-school, however the teacher reassured her that his hit-and-miss approach to language was totally normal for his age.

A few months later he joined Kindergarten and all of a sudden reading took centre stage. By now, something much more dramatic was going on; it was almost as if his mind was totally and utterly switched off to remembering words. Sam could make the phonetic sounds out loud and express himself orally no problem. When he came across words written in the page of a book his mind instantly went blank and he guessed his way through. What’s more, despite being a generally focussed boy, Sam’s attention span when it came to reading was now incredibly short.

But what worried Lisa most was the effect of this ever widening gap on her son’s confidence. Whilst his friends were dealing in increasingly complex language; Sam was left stumped by simple three letter words, despite sometimes having come across them just a few minutes before.

Lisa was concerned, but the school still insisted that things were on track. She was determined to listen to her instincts on this, and so pushed for an assessment with the school’s resident Occupational Therapist. This confirmed what Lisa had suspected; Sam’s working memory was substantially weaker than most children his age. In a way it was a relief, but a daunting call to action as well.

Following the assessment, Lisa wasn’t prepared to sit back and watch as his suffering unfolded, so they decided to take the bull by the horns. Continual one on one practice at home and at school was coupled with Occupational Therapy for his memorisation ability. They also tried a number of reading intervention programs including Reading Eggs. Despite everything, he was still reading b’s as d’s and confusing ‘was’ for ‘saw’.

A few months later and still on the hunt for the reading Holy Grail, one of Lisa’s friends mentioned that they had used a program called Easyread to great success, so she looked it up. Immediately she could tell that the program offered a compendium of features that perfectly matched Sam’s profile: repetition, highly visual cues, quick-fire daily lessons and fun and interactive games. The trial lesson was a huge hit. What’s more, a few days later Sam was still regaling the family with his explanations for The Ants in Pink Pants and The Bear with Long Hair – he had remembered it all perfectly! Lisa was so impressed that by the end of the week they had signed up.

The Solution

The one thing that Lisa was immediately pleased to discover was that doing Easyread was not a chore. Mother and son sat together at the computer each day and laughed along to the jokes, inventive characters and games. The spy themed prizes that arrived in the post really caught his imagination too, and were a great motivator. Reading together before now had been like trying to get water out of a stone. With Easyread, the fun and the learning flowed harmoniously, and within just a few minutes they were done for the day. It was such a relief!

Lisa also enjoyed how supported she felt by the team. Every week they received updates and feedback on his progress, and she was given the opportunity to share their experiences over the messaging system and during the phone consultations. Sam was being considered as an individual rather than being pushed through a generic battery of lessons.

One example of this was when some testing in the lessons revealed Sam to have an eye-tracking weakness. This was not something that Lisa had ever suspected before, but they tried the set of physical exercises suggested by the team nonetheless. It required hard work and commitment, but in a matter of weeks they could see a clear change.

The Result

Since starting Easyread Sam has progressed by 14 reading levels at school. That is essentially the equivalent of 1.5 years progress in just 8 months! These days, everywhere they go Sam will read whatever he can lay his hands on. His confidence has taken a gigantic leap too, which for Lisa is probably the most important thing. In fact, Sam has now developed such a joy for reading that all he ever wants to do is go to the bookshop! His focus is excellent compared with how it used to be as well. A 20 minute reading session can fly by!

Being at a very high achieving school, Sam is by no means at the top of his class, but just to be in the middle and not at the bottom, is a huge load off.

An additional bonus from the course which Lisa certainly hadn’t expected is the affect it has had on Sam’s general academic abilities-simply because he can now read the questions! The school system in New South Wales, Australia – where Sam and Lisa live – does not care whether a child can answer the question verbally; if they cannot not read it and write the answer down they are failed – even in Kindergarten! Now that Sam has unlocked the mystery that was language, maths, science and art can be understood at a whole new level.

Sam’s spelling has also improved, and although this is something they are continuing to work on, the very fact that he will now write a story for the very pleasure of it signals to Lisa that this can only get better.

Something else that is still very much a work-in-progress is Sam’s memory retention. Sam will begin a new program to help with this later in the year. However his ability to read has made him a more successful learner and a generally much happier child both at home and at school, so Lisa is certainly not worried!

A year ago, Lisa was concerned at the prospect of her son’s educational future. Now with just over two months’ worth of lessons to go she cannot wait to see what the future holds. Sam is teetering on the edge of reading take off, and his confidence has taken off at rocket speed. Anything is possible!
