Huge mental step forward…
Josephine is doing well. She is definitely not losing interest. She insists that there is no difference reading the words comparing the game format and the story text.
She is rereading the text in the story. She does better the top half of the page than the bottom but that is because she is anxious to “move on” to the next page.
I’ve noticed a new independence in her word decoding in the games. She is more confident that she decoded the word correctly herself rather than decoding it but then asking me if she is right. She also is becoming more verbally animated with the games which to me seem that she is relaxing and not having to concentrate so hard on the decoding.
She also is attempting to decode more words on sign, labels etc.
On her video when she sang the words “I’m a slow reader” I thought that said alot. A few months ago she just would have point blankly said “I can’t read”. Huge mental step!!!!
She coincidently got her codeword APPLE on the same day she won a team indoor rockclimbing competition. A double woo-hoo day!
Now reading in the 99.7% range!
His reading level and comprehension falls in the 99,7% percentile for his age, which is amazing, and I am convinced that it is because we used the right method for teaching him (Easyread) when he found reading hard.
I like all aspects of the programme
We are still enjoying Easyread. It is great that the lessons are short and the games are fun. Ruby is keen to do her lessons now; the Skype lesson we had with you made a big difference to how she feels.
I like all aspects of the programme and am seeing an improvement in Ruby’s reading already and she has gone up 2 colour bands this term.
HUGE improvement in reading and writing
Firstly I have to say that we have seen a HUGE improvement in Lauren’s feelings towards writing – she is now writing a diary, and last week wrote out a recipe as we were making cottage pie. She wanted to take it to the childminder so that she could make it! she is also reading cookery books , any reading is good reading right?!
I am not seeing guessing, and she is reading fluently, I think this must be translating to her schoolwork too as she no longer works with the teaching assistant as regularly.
All in all I am SO pleased that I found easyread, even if we don’t do it every day because of our swimming and work commitments there are never any complaints about doing it (other than she always wants the game to be a joke and not letter quest ;-))
Confidence is up!
By the way she is doing very well her confidence is up and just last night she mentioned she’d read a bunch of movie descriptions looking for one she wanted to watch. And she said it was easy for her to read because it was interesting.
Thanks so much for helping create confidence in my daughter.
She can read!
Hannah’s reading is definitely improving still, and I would say ‘she can read’. She is more and more confident, and is now reading chapter books with much less trepidation. It is still effort for her, but I would say that there is a marked difference that has happened over the past few weeks.
So, Hannah is now reading ‘Journey to the River Sea’ for school, which is fabulous (we had read it before, with her dad reading to her, but she is now reading it herself). And she is feeling comfortable with it. But she had to write a book report on it. Which she really struggled with, both the physical act of writing that much, and also the spelling. No problems whatsoever with narrative and characters. A bit disorganised in terms of structure and reference, but I was pretty impressed. She also seems to be getting the Ungar narrative very easily.(better than me … I have to get her to explain it to me :-). (I might get her to write a synopsis of the story, as practice for writing …)
So basically she is still enjoying Easyread a great deal, and I think still continuing to make progress.
James is flying high!
Hi guys, just wanted to sincerely wish you all a merry Christmas, since I am getting the best present ever watching James flying along. We have now finished the school year and he has caught up to the average. a huge relief for us. so thank you very, very much.
He's doing SO well!
He is doing SO well and I’m glad to see the words are getting more difficult to keep increasing his exposure to new words. We are happy! Thanks.
A very competent 3rd grade reader
Allison has made excellent progress with her reading skills since beginning the Easyread Program last July. She has enjoyed the lessons and now, according to her teacher, she is a very competent 3rd grade reader.
To David…
To David,
I think the course was interesting and fun. I learned a lot!

Improvement is amazing!
Generally he is still really enjoying it, the improvement has been amazing.
Her reading is much better
Overall we feel that Maria is making progress and her reading is much better. She even enjoys reading by herself in bed. Now she pays more attention to the sounds in words and can put sounds to unknown words. She is also putting a bit more effort in her spelling.
We are happy with the system.
Spelling improvements already!
Hello – I know it is early to be expecting improvements in reading and spelling, but I wanted to have this in your records.
1. September 2014 – Primary 5 teacher gives spelling test (word list not seen/shared with students before the test or practiced) and Anna achieved 2 out of 20 (lowest score in class of mixed expat children, some not from English-speaking families).
2. Start Easyread the week after this test.
2. November 28 2014 – Primary 5 teacher gives a follow up test, with different words (not seen as before nor practiced). Anna was nervous about it, but scored 10 out of 20! And was not the bottom of the class! Some of the words were: together, planned, escaped, patient. She was really happy to report this to the family!
Good level of fluency
Hello Sarah, it has been a long road but Etienne is achieving a level of fluency which he finds gratifying. This is generalising into other reading which is great!
She is reading on her own!
Hi Sarah, I was telling a friend this evening – and was showing them Grace’s eye movements, and was happy to see her tracking has dramatically improved. She is also reading on her own more frequently and higher levels of books. She is doing great and I am very happy with our progress. We will keep at it.. she is determined to earn the remote control helicopter.. thanks!
Finally at national standard!
Forgot to say Connor is finally at the national standard in every subject…He’s turning 10 on Sunday…He’s done it!
We are thrilled with Easyread
Hello Miss Sarah (and I like to include Mr. David, since he is a part of day!),
Just a little update since I think you asked about such things a week or two ago.
First off, we are thrilled with the material. We started the EasyRead system when four years of traditional phonics and the some whole language programs did not help our fourth child, a seven and half year old girl, learn to read. We’ve homeschooled all four children, with the older two now in university. The challenges that our daughter presented were perplexing to me, and the school district was not willing to provide services. A friend recommended a website that mentioned EasyRead and now here were are, 40 some lessons in and the progress she has made is so encouraging.
Two months ago, she wouldn’t pick up a pencil to write her name. Now she wants to record all sorts of things and sounds words out as she writes them. Two months ago, she could not consistently read words like “cat”, “sit” or “net”. Even though she knew what each sound was individually, she could not piece them together to make a word. And now she is doing that. She is able to read most of the problems in her math workbook, which is a huge accomplishment. She is becoming more secure in her reading/ decoding.
And her spelling is remarkable. The Funky Monkey Jungle … Game(sorry), is fantastic. I am so surprised that she can do this and her 9.5yr old sister watches over her shoulder on this part to learn her spelling:). I think she enjoys nearly all the games, and I appreciate the variety, with each one seeming to focus on one or two essentials for reading. The time necessary for each day is just about right and I try to take advantage of the extra games when we can.
The rewards are appropriately given and she is always so excited to earn them and then wait for it in the mail! Thank you for thinking of even this:)
As David says, “Well done! That’s it for today!”
Success with Easyread
Rosie has come so far with her reading thanks to Easyread. We feel it is time to move on. Thanks for all of your help. We may be back for Spell Magic!
Easyread did the job!
Thank you for the course. It helped Kate learn to read! A great course, where teachers and classroom reading could not help Kate learn to read, Easyread did the job!
Major improvements so far!
I am very pleased with the program thus far. Karl’s reading has made major improvements and is still positive. Thank you!
Easyread has changed our lives
What can I say. We love Easyread. It’s changed our lives because reading is now fun with our daughter. It’s changed our daughter’s perception of herself as a reader. There’s been challenging bits but generally it’s been a positive experience.
Easyread is fantastic. We were at a loss when our local school told us our daughter was in the normal zone but was going into the year below to do her phonics lesson as she was in the lower group. Her confidence was going and no amount of confidence building was working. Our daughter likes to win and she would say things like “I’m not good at reading”, “I’m not very clever”. I knew this not to be true – she was struggling now but she was labelling herself. We were heartbroken and lost as to what to do
Then a friend told us about Easyread. I was skeptical if I’m honest but immediately we saw a HUGE difference in her improvement.
Then it levelled off and some days it was marvellous and other days more challenging.
We’re now coming to the next level and our daughter is now confidently reading to us at night. She’s writing stories like “Harry Potter 9” but most importantly she’s getting confident again.
Easyread is amazing. All children who find phonics difficult should get the opportunity to do Easyread. It works. It’s wonderful. It’s fun and it teaches that with a little bit of work every day you can succeed at anything.
Theo and I have enjoyed it so far
Both Theo and I have enjoyed the early stages of Easyread. He loves decoding using the symbols and is getting really good at it- he is faster than me most of the time! I have found the training modules very useful and can see the purpose behind the stages.
Olivia and her mum are thrilled!
I just thought I’d share this with you. I had a lovely email from Olivia`s mum this evening. Olivia`s reading was assessed at school and she has gone up a whole level to 5C! This is much higher than her age expected level.
Both Olivia and her mum are thrilled!
She got an "A" in reading!
Allison is in 3rd grade and she had an “A” (top grade) in Reading on her first report card. Her teacher has said she has not seen any problems with Allison’s reading and was surprised to hear that Allison had difficulties in the past.
Great improvement
We have seen a great improvement in Dillon’s reading. He still has to sound out some words but not as many and his speed has picked up lovely! He still guesses sometimes but nowhere near as much as before, and I have noticed that if he does guess he will notice himself that it doesn’t make sense. Many thanks!
