Parent Reviews of Easyread

Our most recent reviews:

Kemp is so excited…

Kemp is so excited about his helicopter and is planning to Show & Tell it at school. We are so proud of him – he has worked so hard and now loves his reading!

Mischa has finished the course too. It is amazing to see her read so well, given her age. It has given her confidence in all of her schoolwork and we are so glad that we decided to put her on the course as well.

Thank you again!

Extremely Excited…

Fitting Easyread into our daily routine has worked very well. Generally Charlie has been pretty positive when I have said it’s time to do it. He has loved the prizes, they really have motivated him and made him feel he is being successful. The light-heartedness and the fun side of Easyread has really appealed to both of us , we often have a good laugh over the antics of the 3 Little Pigs. I am starting to notice a change in his attitude. Yesterday he picked up a Horrid Henry book which 6 weeks ago he wouldn’t have looked at and he read it. I was so happy. It’s early days but I feel extremely positive about what is to come.

Finn is proud…

Finn has now finished his course and I just wanted to let you know that we, and most importantly Finn, really feel that Easyread has been a massive help. Not only has it made a big difference to his reading, but it has boosted his confidence and made him realise that Dyslexia is just one of those things that you get on with and not to be embarrassed or ashamed of it. In fact in many ways Finn is proud of the other benefits that come with dyslexia, such as being able to see things differently. So in many ways he has the best of both worlds – the ability to solve quite complex problems with his more lateral brain whilst now being able to read so much better thanks to Easyread, and a lot of his own hard work. Many thanks to you and your team…

Reading is not so scary now…

Easyread in Xanthe’s words…”I have found Easyread a bit hard and a bit easy. I have enjoyed it. I feel like I can read bigger books now.  Reading is not so scary now”…

Easyread has been brilliant at getting Xanthe to increase her confidence in just picking up a book.  She now sometimes participates in reading bedtime stories.  At school she is expected to be on track for a level 2 in her SATs this term.  I don’t believe this would have been the case without your support and ours.  Many thanks for taking the stress out of it!

I was at the end of my tether…

Grace has become more confident and willing to tackle a wider range of reading material as she now believes that ‘she can’ where as before she thought she ‘definitely couldn’t’ which would prevent her from even starting. The battles seem to be over for now.

Maybel is doing brillantly and as I said in a previous message she has come up into Year 1 reading group. She also is willing to try and read everything in sight. Her teacher mentioned that her blending of words which I think is the same as decoding is very good and above her age.

I think I was at the end of my tether with Grace’s reluctance to read and homework time was always stressful. I am looking forward to the rest of the course and the positive reinforcements of the prizes has really worked.

Big impact on confidence…

I’m really glad we found EasyRead for Amy – it is having a big impact on her confidence. She now seems able to trust the letters she sees, as with the help of the pictures she can trust what the sound should be. Before, she was very frustrated with the different sounds that letter combinations could make. It is a very simple approach, but it seems to work. The code words, natural talking, gentle encouragement are all pitched just right in my opinion – the positive psychological aspect of the system cannot be underestimated!

I like the fact that ‘tricky’ words are introduced early ie. that the idea that there are many alternatives are part of the system from early on (eg today, she had to make the word done – 3 weeks ago she would have used the ‘u’ without a doubt). The lessons are short and easy to fit into her day, even if she’s tired, as she knows they won’t take too long. I like the fact that there’s no choice of the games involved. No choice means no debate! Although the ‘random’ game selector is a good way to introduce variation.

All in all we are happy, and for me that is a huge part of the journey…

Ceri and I work daily – or as close to daily as we can – on Easyread and she is very happy to do so. She enjoys the activities and decodes clearly, accurately and always with a smile.

At this stage her confidence is far greater, and her reluctance to read is less. She is happier at school – although as you said I wouldn’t say any skills have transferred yet.

I am really impressed how well she can decode in the story mode…recognising the image sound and reading the text that has no letters. I enjoy watching and reading it with her.

All in all we are happy, and for me that is a huge part of the journey. I hope we can look back in a year and say, ‘yep…glad we did that!’

Additionally…Ceri loves the prizes!!

Adam is doing really well…

Adam is doing really well. He is certainly more likely to have a go at working out how to read signs and instructions – something he was very keen to avoid at all costs earlier this year. He has had some tests at school and the teacher could see improvements from last year and said he was currently in the ‘not at risk’ catagory for literacy from their testing. This is obviously reassuring, but we feel it is largely due to the changes we have made since starting easyread. As parents, we are now much more informed about how he learns and therefore able to offer him the help that he needs, rather than more of the same; a frustrating way for all of us! The easyread website is still the only one we have found that makes sense for children like Adam. He is certainly less stresssed about reading now. We have easily built it into the start of our day and the short lessons make it much better for a child like Adam who would otherwise see it as a chore. He likes the characters and the jokes. So, in summary, all going well so far thank you!

Half the battle…

Things are going well with easyread and Ethan is progessing very well. His end of term report from school was very encouraging, his readng and spelling have improved greatly this term and he is now catching up to his class mates. This has made him feel very proud of himself which has been half the battle.  Thank you for your help and support.

He is growing in confidence tremendously…

I thought you may be interested to hear that we had a parents evening with Max’s teachers a few nights ago and his reading level has now been assessed as progressing from a 2c this time last year to a 3b now…!!!

We/he/they are very pleased with his progress as he is now effectively reading at his next year group level. He is growing in confidence tremendously which is resulting in him working alone more and more at school because he can read his teachers instructions.

He recently had a 3 day school residential trip away which sent him home reading everything in his sight from road signs to cereal boxs. Thank you for all your help and clearly the system has/is worked/ing very well with him.

Many thanks for your help…

Grace has had a school report in which her teacher says her reading level and writing have improved greatly and her spelling tests have helped focus her on her handwriting. She was given 2b in the expected coloumn which is so much better than I thought.

Maybel’s report was brillant as well and she is achieving above her reading level and has been placed with the year 1 reading group instead of her reception. Her teacher says her blending is exceptionally good.

Thanks so much for all that you have done…

Thank you so much for the fantastic helicopter-what a wonderful treat. Beth has really worked hard at Easyread and it has worked really well for her, especially given that concentration can be a challenge.

Thanks so much for all that you have done. She is now reading much more confidently and we will definitely recommend you to others. God bless.

I am nearly 14 and my reading has improved…

I am nearly 14 and my reading has improved since year 7. The program Easyread has really helped. I have found having the characters helps a lot and I encourage
other people to use it. Some of the games are good and some bad. My favourites are Letter Quest, Hangman, Pinball and Eggi. The jokes are so bad that they are funny!

Her teacher is amazed at her ability…

We are very happy that Mischa has reached the gold level in this course. Even though she is still only 5 and therefore in Reception, she is reading extremely well. Her teacher is amazed at her ability. She is now reading at Level 8 at school! Not bad if you consider that English is a second language for Mischa.

It has definitely boosted her confidence levels at school – showing her that she can achieve at anything if she puts in the effort.

We love the concept of doing one short lesson a day. It has really worked for us. We have made it a requirement that she finishes Easyread every weekday before she can watch TV.  Once again, thank you for all your help.

Another piece of good news…

Another piece of good news. I spoke to Andrew’s teacher this morning and she said his reading is much more fluent now and his writing and spelling are begining to improve. Thank you Easyread!

(Mother of Andrew, age 11)

I am finding reading and writing a lot easier now…

Thank you for the binoculars thay are really cool. I am finding reading and writing a lot easier now. Yesterday I even got a gold certificate at school for hard work and effort to improve my writing.

– Andrew (Age 11)

The school are as delighted as are we…

Just thought I’d give you an update as we have had some great news…

Last year, for reading and spelling Lily was tested and came out as not having a reading age. Yesterday however, she came out with a reading age of 5 years 2 months, meaning she is now 10 months behind her peers.

The school SENCO has said that due to the progress she has made so far and with the Easyread programme in place, Lily will have caught up with her peers in the next couple of months. The amazing news is that her spelling age is 6 years and 7 months. Lily was 6 on 27th Feb so she has done really well. The school are as delighted as are we. Thank you AGAIN for all your support.

She really is a happier girl…

Eva is doing very well and making progress. She is a lot more confident when she brings school books home and she doesn’t cry when asked to read, which used to be a regular occurrence. She is a lot more confident and will sometimes go and choose a book without being asked and try and read it independently.

She did make a little film which we posted on your facebook page and it really sums up how she feels. Before she did Easyread, she would NEVER have spoken about reading in such a positive way so I do know that her progress in reading is down to 4 months of Easyread.

We are so pleased with her progress and she really is a happier girl. We also moved her from her school as they had totally zapped her confidence by keeping her back from all assemblies (including music/singing assemblies, which she was really good at). Her new school is so much better, very supportive and we have been singing the praises of Easyread to them! Thank you! It’s a brilliant programme!

Easyread is really helping me…

I have been doing Rapid Readers books at school to help with my reading and now I have finished all of them and I am onto The Book Trolley like everybody else.

I am starting to try and read chapter books too. The one that I am reading at the moment is called Poppy Love. It is all about a little girl who is learning to do ballroom dancing and she has gone to an old people’s home to dance in front of them.

I also struggle with writing fast, but last week I got “Star Writer” from my teacher and this week in “Let’s Write” I wrote 2 and a quarter pages, which is more than I have ever done at school. Easyread is really helping me.

Improvement or what !!…

We had a meeting in school today about Lewis and I am proud to say that he has been formally assessed in his reading and there is fantastic progress. His reading age in December was 4.10 and this March his reading age is 6.5 improvement or what !!
We knew he had recently gone up a level and let you know how pround we were of him. But this reading progress has all been down to him independently changing his attitude as a result of this program. Thanks and may things continue with the set routine and structure of the Easyread program.

We really can't thank you enough…

Dear David, Laura, Matt and all the Easyread team,
We really can’t thank you enough, what a wonderful course you offer that has been simply life changing and which has affected the whole family, especially Oliver.

Before starting with the Easyread program, we had tantrums and books being thrown across the room. After 9 months of hard work from Oliver, he is now a different child. He’s reading almost fluently and most importantly his confidence has grown so much that he is now a happier little boy.

We sort of miss our daily dose of Easyread and will always remember just what it did for Oliver and I will continue to sing your praises.

P.s. The helicopter is fantastic, but stuck in the hedge at the moment!

Her reading age has improved by nearly a year…

Just thought I would share my news…I’ve been to Marys parents evening today and they have told me that her reading age has improved by nearly a year. I had not said anything to school re her doing Easyread. Mary was with me to hear this news which is a real boost to her.
-N (3 months into the course)

Just so proud…

Lewis has come home tonight and school have moved him up a level in reading, they are trying him on level 4 books….we are just so proud of him.

These lessons offer us hope for a happier child…

Jamie can now decode quickly and accurately, something which I am very happy with. I also consider that his spelling has improved and I really feel that now we are on the cusp of a real breakthrough with this. I am looking forward to the results of the next few months work.

The improvements I have seen are as follows;- (a) no flipping of B and D, (b) an understanding of the fact he has to learn the structure of the word, and (c) an ability to sound out a new word (he found this impossible before) – so that is good.

In addition to the work with Easyread I engaged a tutor one hour a week on his maths and this has improved beyond measure. He passed this years testing without a problem mastering his times tables, telling the time and fractions.

The work in Easyread has improved his self-confidence at school significantly and he seems well settled and happy.

He has never found reading difficult, is really clever and the teachers have told us the fact that his spelling was so very poor was holding him back significantly. These lessons offer us hope for a happier child who will eventually be able to produce written work that reflects his intelligence.
