Parent Reviews of Easyread

Our most recent reviews:

All in all positive progress…

Liam has been steadily progressing. We do reread the story until fluent, although he can get a bit frustrated with this it does and has enabled him to become more fluent as a reader and now we are having to re-read less as the last two or three sessions have been fluent – lovely to see !

I have also noticed, just as of today that he is now attempting to read things around him e.g. this morning a brand on a bottle in the bathroom and this evening a sign on a shop – this is something he hasn’t done before which again is a great step forward.

Liam mostly enjoys Easyread, as with any boy he would prefer to do other things ! But we don’t have a battle for him to do it and he does enjoy the games at the end especially Letter Quest – that seems to be his favourite!

I also can say that the Jungle monkey game is becoming much quicker, with what would seem less thought having to be put in by Liam.

Liam is also showing progress in his written work, where he is able to spell words easier and therefore I sense less frustration which enables a greater willingness to write – very helpful at this time of the year with Christmas cards !

So all in all positive progress I would say.

Thank you so much for this amazing course…

I would just like to say what a huge difference Easyread has made to Will so far. Before we started the course Will found it a huge struggle to read basic words and refused to read or write and homework was a real battle. His confidence was low and the children at school had started excluding him from games and activities.

Six weeks into the course he has progressed so much already – he has jumped up three reading levels at school, his spelling has dramatically improved from 0 out of 6 to 6 out of six and he is reading every road sign in sight! His confidence has improved and I am sure he realises how much Easyread is helping him because he is always willing and ready to do each exercise.

There are no battles – he looks forward to it and finds it fun. I have to say it has been like a switch that has been turned on. On my part I have found the support amazing and the knowledge of the team have help me to understand the difficulties Will faced and why he found it hard to retain information. I am so impressed with Easyread that I would recommend it to any parent concerned with their child’s reading ability. I think by starting this now with Will 6 years old this will make a huge difference to Wills reading in later years.

Thank you so much for this amazing course.

Some great news today…

Well we had some great news today. Bethan’s reading age before starting Easyread was 4.10 (July 2013). She was tested today and her reading age has increased to 6.4. Although she’s still behind her actual age, she’s made 18 months progress in just 6 months! Her spelling age is also an amazing 7.3 years. Her teacher also commented that her confidence and perseverance has increased ten fold as this term has gone on and she’s confident it is linked to her success with
reading.

As we talked about today, her teacher has also noted that she is still struggling with the longer words, even polysyllabic words with simple sounds in, but thinks this will improve with practice. She also passed her stage 3 keyword book which we haven’t looked at all (and they have to read the word, not sound it out first to pass!).

Chosen as 'child of the term'! We're more than happy…

We are more than happy with Easyread. As I said last week Reuben reading level has increased by two years in these short six weeks on the course which we are overjoyed about. He is attempting to read words all around him on bags, signs etc. which is something he has never done (decoding them).

This week Reuben has been chosen as “Child of the Term” at school so we are going to celebrate Reuben’s success at school on Wednesday.

He completes his lessons voluntarily-fantastic!…

Lewis is really progressing well with Easyread. He has now fully memorised the characters and is reading each section of the story fluently.

His reading of the Easyread story is much improved over the last couple of weeks and his general reading is benefiting from remembering to fully decode and not guess at the words – we look forward to this continuing to full fluency in due course.

Most importantly he is still enjoying the course and will completes his lessons voluntarily – which is fantastic.

Makes my heart swell!

We are definitely noticing that she has improved…actually by leaps and bounds. I do have to be very careful that she doesn’t revert back to “guessing”, but all in all, the positive by far, out-weighs the negative.
I have some trouble trying to get her to do the eye-tracking exercises, but I am still trying to get that accomplished.
We are very happy with the program, and K really likes that the lessons are not too long…she doesn’t seem to find it too overwhelming this way.
The only thing that she requires my help for sometimes is when the word doesn’t match the picture because of the accent of the narrator. Other than that, everything seems to run smoothly so far.
That’s all I can think of at this time.
Thanks so much for this program…her confidence is growing in reading and that makes my heart swell. It’s hard on any Mom’s heart when you see your child struggle with school work.

A good sign…

On a positive note, Tess thinks it’s a riot to decode using only the Easyread Trainertext, and really seems to be enjoying it – wanting to ‘do it all herself’ which she’s not quite ready for but I’ve been letting her as much as possible. I always think it’s a good sign when a kid wants to try it without help!

– T

A marked improvement…

There has been a marked change in Llewellyn’s attitude – he just seems to want to read now. He is keen and willing to try to read station signs, posters, comments on the TV in a way he wasn’t before. And his fluency is much better too. Who he does come across a word he doesn’t know, he doesn’t have the same panic response he used to have, and instead will slowly try to decode it.

Thank you for all of your help.

Thank you for everything you've done to help my son, it has definitely worked!…

I would like to say a big thank you for everything you have done to help my son. This time last year we had just embarked on our journey with Easyread, which has exceeded all our expectations.

Our son was at an independent school age 6 and couldn’t read or write. There was no effort on the school’s part to establish why this was the case. It was even hinted that our son was just not capable. After some pressure from us, our son was assessed and diagnosed dyslexic. Even then little effort was made to help him.

We found Easyread through Google. Liked the idea of the characters, the fact that it looked child friendly and felt comforted that we could have our money back if the course didn’t work. Well it has definitely worked!

This time last year our son would not even try and read reception books and now he is reading age appropriate books. What is even more amazing is how much he now loves reading. He has now changed school and is so excited every time school send him home with a new book and reads it on the way home in the car.

The final helicopter prize was a good motivator and my son was chuffed to bits when he received it. I would fully recommend Easyread to anyone and have frequently done so. The prizes are a good way to keep the children motivated.

Our son has frequently showed his friend’s Easyread lessons and they have all enjoyed the games and the stories. So a great big thank you from Robert and family.

Three kids, three successes!

“All three of my children are using Easyread as our primary reading program. All three children are both gifted and dyslexic – quite a combination. I have been amazed at the progress thus far. Agent J is in third grade this year and with Easyread his reading has improved by leaps and bounds. For example, even with using several different reading programs in our homeschooling last year, when J had his annual achievement testing his reading had improved just slightly – reading only 5 new words (words read without accompanying context) after 12 months!
In the short time he has been doing Easyread my husband and I have been blown away at his progress. It isn’t just that he is reading better, but he is also choosing to read on his own at grabbing books to read at the 3rd grade reading level. He is having very little trouble with leveled readers and often times when he is reading I will anticipate he will need help with a word, only to have him read it with ease.
He still has a ways to go with breaking the old established habit of guessing and he still using context as a large guide for his reading, but we are so early in the program and with the progress he has made – we are beyond thrilled.
The twins (O and M) are progressing as well. M is reading level 1 books and having a blast. We recently went on vacation (an 8 day cruise) and she packed 50 books for the trip! Yes, no exaggeration – she literally stuffed 50 books into her suitcase!
The biggest progress has been with O. He is probably my least confident child. His lack of confidence results in him resisting school work at times, but he never says no to Easyread or puts up a fuss. What is more, the other day he took out a piece of paper and a pencil and started to write a story. He has NEVER done this before, ever. My husband was in awe. He asked for help with spelling some words and I was thrilled when he asked questions like “is ‘board’ spelled with an ‘a’ or an ‘o’?” He realized the “or” sound could have a number of different combinations involving that letters “a” and “o” – wow!
Yes, all three kids still have a long way to go, but I am so amazed with what they have accomplished thus far that I can’t imagine with the next lessons will bring!”

To say I am over the moon is an understatement!…

I have heard fantastic news today, Reuben’s teacher informed me that they have just carried out a reading assessment. On entry into Year 2 Reuben’s reading age was 4 years and yesterday it was assessed as 6 years.

To say I am over the moon is an understatement! Both Reuben’s teacher and I cried! Thank you Easyread so much!

Holding back the tears…

Elijah wants to tell you:

“I am very encouraged with my reading because today I was reading some lines which I am going to to do in a Nativity and my Mum didn’t need to help me read. Thank you for helping me read.”

His Dad and I were amazed and one of us held back tears! So encouraging.

Kirtlington Primary School

Thank you for that, it helps greatly. I have just updated all the childrens accounts with new reading scores. There are some pretty amazing results, we are very pleased with all the children.
A huge thank you to you and David
Amanda

Absolutely delighted…

Joseph has just returned home from school and opened his helicopter. He is absolutely delighted with it especially as remote control toys are his favourite anyway! He sends his thanks too.

Many thanks for your advice during the course. It has been quite hard going at times but that was mainly due to Joseph’s unwillingness to co-operate. He really did enjoy level 4 as the lessons were shorter and the content was easier for him to grasp.

We are continuing to see the Optometrist and we do daily eye exercises with him which I think is having a positive effect.

He is the teacher's star reader!…

Amanda is still doing really well with her reading, mostly on the confidence side of things which for me is the most important to sustain at this stage. She is also progressing in terms of her reading and spelling at school. She has been on fish oil supplements for a month or so now and that seems to help a lot too.

Ewan is doing very well, he crept up to book band 2 within a couple of months of starting school and gets a sticker each week for being his teacher’s star reader! He is reading very fluently and his reading record is bulging with fantastic comments.

Very positive results so far…

Yesterday Deborah read a new book I bought her from a charity shop, best 29p I ever spent! She picked it off the book shelf and started reading with only minor mistakes. Very positive results so far.

Miraculous!…

By the way I know there have only been 2 lessons so far but he loves it and it’s the first thing he does when he comes home from school. Miraculous!! Cheers!

Actually enjoys reading

I am extremely happy with Easyread to date. My daughter now actually enjoys her reading lesson and is progressing. Her frustration is no longer and she is reading without being prompted. She still has a way to go but she enjoys Easyread and doesn’t get deterred.

Case Study: Lack of interest in reading, tears, frustration

Hannah was stuck in a reading rut as a self-professed non-reader before Easyread. Nowadays, she can’t get enough!

The Problem

Year 1 was a breeze for Hannah. She could easily devour most of the books in the classroom and the school had no concerns. Fast forward a year and the picture couldn’t have been more different. As far as reading was concerned, Hannah was well and truly stuck in a rut. The school refused to admit there was a problem, but mum Sharon had others ideas…

The decline in Hannah’s ready ability was widespread. In a classroom setting she was heavily dependent on her classmates for help with any task that involved reading questions. She was also increasingly disinterested in reading in, and would struggle to identify even the simplest of words. Despite this, learning and school life in general were very important to Hannah, and so Sharon knew it wasn’t a question of her daughter’s personality driving her attitude. Indifference just wasn’t Hannah’s style.

At home meanwhile, Sharon watched in disbelief as the polarisation between Hannah and her identical twin sister grew and grew, to the point that her sister was actually free reading, whilst Hannah was reading nothing at all. She would sit and stare at books for hours! It was clear that she was knocking on a locked door. Even when Sharon compelled Hannah to read with her, she could manage the first four to five words surprisingly well – and even inject some fluency – but after that the house of cards quickly came tumbling down. Avoidance tactics, sulking, fidgeting and tears were generally what characterized the end of any homework session.

Things got steadily worse, until in Year 3 it had reached the point where Hannah would sadly refer to herself as a ‘non-reader’, when she compared herself with her sister. For Sharon this was heart-breaking. And yet the school kept insisting she would catch up! All Sharon knew was that her daughter’s blackened attitude towards reading would soon reach the point of no return, and she couldn’t bear to watch by and let it happen. Doing more reading was the only suggestion the school made, but that just meant more crying and negativity.

The Solution

One evening Sharon was surfing online looking for information on how to help a struggling reader when she stumbled across Easyread. When she viewed David’s videos and descriptions of the causes of reading difficulty it was like he was describing her daughter! The next morning she showed Hannah the trial lesson, and she absolutely loved it. Never had they felt so positive about the possibility of really helping Hannah, and so there was no hesitation in signing her up then and there.

Hannah loved that when she did Easyread, not only was she succeeding in reading words…but crucially she was also a spy! The related gifts were very motivational for her. The pace of each level was just right, with the increase in complexity being suitably subtle. The games were enjoyable, and the Trainertext characters were fun but simple for her to learn and remember. Sharon was continually amazed whenever Hannah read the words without any text! The support from the team was excellent too, and very encouraging, something which Sharon needed as much as Hannah!

The Result

In the past few weeks Hannah has finished the program. In under a year she has gone from being a self-professed non-reader, to a reader! “I feel I can read 100 books” was one of her latest comments. These were words Sharon never dreamed she would hear Hannah say.

Hannah may still have some difficulty with certain words, but she is much more confident in trying to read something she is stuck on. No more tantrums and brick walls; Sharon will simply prompt her to “just decode it” and she does, with no drama or tears.

Sharon is over the moon! “Easyread has given Hannah so much confidence, not just with reading, but in her belief that she can tackle anything she has a mind to. Thank you so much.”

Worth every cent…

Easyread has certainly been worth every cent! Thank you so much for your support, I will continue to tell anyone with a child struggling to read how wonderful this program is.

We are so proud and grateful…

Thomas received a Gold Certificate for English reading at his school’s end of year prize giving. We are so very proud of him and very grateful to you and your team.

After 100 lessons there has definitely been an improvement in Ella’s ability to decode words and spell them. I have also found that her decoding skills in Easyread are far more fluent and she doesn’t become deflated if I correct her for the occasional guess now.

Easyread has definitely helped Ella and I am very glad that I found you! Thank you.

Reading chapter books now!

Bonnie,
Thank you and the Easyread Team for the birthday greeting. G enjoyed it. I have wanted to touch base with you to let you know that G is continuing to make progress in his reading. He is reading chapter books now. He is also reading labels, cards, signs, and directions without prompting. We are very very pleased with his progress!! Many thanks to you and everyone at Easyread!

Her reading is definitely better…

We are keeping up with the lessons and are due to hit lesson 100 on Tuesday. Eli’s reading is doing quite well. She is reading fairly fluently from books with not too many gaps and virtually no sounding out of words letter by letter. We really feel she is progressing as does our friend who spends an hour with her after school each week. Her spelling has improved (we see the vowels and patterns like “ight”, “ou” etc coming into use. Her reading is definitely better .

Motivation is good too. She receives a DVD of her fave horsey soap every 50 lessons which helps!
