Just thought you’d like to see Charlotte’s teacher’s reply…

Hi David,
Just thought you’d like to see Charlotte’s teacher’s reply to my request last week on how she felt Charlotte was doing after 7 months of EasyRead…….

Charlotte has had a marked improvement in the effort she is putting into her work as well as her spelling success. As you know, Charlotte has also been accessing support during literacy and mathematics with teacher aides and is also attending reading comprehension lessons three times a week with a teacher aide this term.

Her bookwork and willingness to complete challenging tasks has been fantastic. I’ve attached the work I showed Jon the other day as well as her attempt at completing a rewrite on an exemplar text.

At the end of last term, we completed another diagnostic spelling test. While Charlotte’s spelling age is still between 6.5 and 7.2, she almost doubled her raw score from the beginning of the year which demonstrates her improved ability to identify spelling patterns in unknown words.

It has been a pleasure watching Charlotte grow so much this year and it’s pleasing to see her self-pride and happiness in the classroom.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

We are very encouraged by Charlotte’s progress and renewed interest in her school work.

By day 60, he came home and announced…

When we first started Easyread, I thought that I’d be getting my money back at Lesson 90. Boy, was I wrong. Before Easyread, Isaac refused to read even short words like “dog” or “cat.” The whole process had become so stressful that he ran out of the room screaming every time we asked him to look at a word. Trainer text changed that from the first day. By day 10, he had picked up on how the system worked. By day 60, he came home and announced that he had “decoded” the word “liberty” all by himself at school. Now, Isaac is reading short books with us, and he was placed in the advanced group in his kindergarten class, even though he’s the youngest one there. Truly, we’re so impressed. We’re going to continue with the program just to see how far it can take him. If 90 lessons have gotten us here, where will 120 lessons take us? Or 150?

Trainer text has been such an incredible primary intervention for Isaac. I think it would help a number of his friends who are still struggling in same place as he was just 90 days ago. I’d really love to see you guys develop the 3-5 y-o version, and I’d be curious to see you test it compared to more standard literacy education programs. Traditional phonics based programs seem so stuffy and boring by comparison.

Casin’s conferences went great!

Casin’s conferences went great! His teacher felt he was decoding and reading up to third grade standard and that he was gaining confidence in the room and his work. His tier three reading teacher said she could see a huge difference in his reading, spelling and confidence. She said there have been less tears this year and now he asks to read out loud in class. She also said he is now helping those students who struggle in class. I have been so impressed with this program and would just like them to be able to see the training’s you had me go through and see some of the lessons you do with your students online. I’d be even more excited if you could somehow help the other third graders in Casin’s tier three class so that they can pass this dreadful state reading test. I’m giving you both emails for Casin’s principal and tier three reading teacher. I hope you can work something out because this has been the best thing that has happened to my son. He even wanted to write about his easyread being the most influential person to him for school, but his teacher said she felt it should be a person not a reading computer program. Thanks again for all you do!

Both my children have really progressed…

Both my children have really progressed well after using Easy Read. Ayla is managing to focus better in class and keep up with the reading. Easy Read has definitely given her an advantage and this has boosted her confidence. Jayden since doing easy read, has done very well at school, he now has his own collection of books which he loves to read. He did not enjoy reading before and barely passed his exams. I am very proud to say he is getting top marks now. I would highly recommend Easy Read to any parent looking to improve their children’s reading ability and love for reading.

Thank you so much for Easy Read and the opportunity for my daughter to progress. I am ever grateful.

Just to share a piece of news…

Just to share a piece of news with yourselves. One morning last week we went into our drawing room to find Malachie engrossed in Little Manfred by Michael Morpurgo. He had chosen it by himself and was reading unaided. He had instigated the whole process. Words cannot describe adequately how we felt at that moment. When we started Easyread it felt like it was our last chance at a significant element of Malachie’s education. We are so glad we did it. He is still challenged but now sees what magic there is to unfold by picking up a book and reading it. He has hardly put the book down since – reading whenever and wherever he gets a chance. Many thanks to yourselves.

All is well! Elizabeth willingly and without resistance sits down to…

All is well! Elizabeth willingly and without resistance sits down to her daily practice session. That alone is a major accomplishment.
Further, she was a chronic guesser, using her wonderful word sense, her memory, and the pictures to put it all together. She just did not want to slow down and decode.

Now, more often than not, she begins with decoding! As such her accuracy, especially on the smaller words (on, of, for, it, if, and) is nearly 100% and we are only 6 weeks in!

The other major advancement I noticed is her trying to read words around the house, out and about, etc. She NEVER used to attempt words outside of a reading session. Her brain really seems to be picking it up and using the skills more naturally. It is thrilling to see this progress.

Finally, your training and emails are invaluable. One of the major strengths is the one-to-one coaching through phone calls, where I can get my exact questions answered.

The focus on the psychology and mindset are genius, as well, for both parent and child, with effects that go far beyond the reading relationship.

Before the system, we spent three years trying to get her to sit down to read. Not once did she do so willingly. Most of the time, her heels were dug in and she was sour.

Now, outside of the system, we sit down at the end of the day to do her reading and she does so without resistance!!! I think she feels as if she has the skills to do it.

More importantly, I’ll bet she feels the difference in me as a reading partner. I work to keep it positive and no longer try to get her to push through her discomfort like a drill sergeant. If she is fatiguing or getting frustrated we simply end the practice with a simple, “Let’s take a break and come back when we feel better.”

I remind myself, “That’ll do pig” (Babe reference David told me about when I asked him whether we are looking for perfection). The phrase reminds me to see the big picture, celebrate progress, keep everyone positive and, importantly, help her to keep doing the work willingly and with consistency.

It all makes the practice much lighter, and that feels better to both of us. I would not have had this perspective without the coaching provided by your training.

All in all, great work. So glad you are out there doing this work.

We are totally loving this system, I was sceptical at first…

We are totally loving this system, I was sceptical at first as it’s very different from what is being taught in the school. I can truly say though that sticking with this and the golden rules that this is working.
Her reading fluency is improving as is her confidence and in turn her enjoyment in reading which before was such a challenge.
I’m so glad we have found this system it’s making such a difference.
Thank you Easy read.

– Clair (Lesson 43)

I am so grateful to have found…

I am so grateful to have found DM Easyread. The ever-rotating games keep the learning fresh and provide instantaneous feedback for Russell. I was surprised and impressed with games like “Place Name Word Game” and “Jungle Juggle”; I couldn’t have thought them up myself, but after seeing them in action, it seemed so obvious how they would help with decoding. And my son loves Spell Drive and Fighter Mission and the Pinball one, so we all get something we like.
Thanks for all you’ve done! It’s a blessing to see him slowing down, sounding out words patiently, and gaining confidence. I am truly happy.

Easyread is fantastic. The support has been wonderful…

Easyread is fantastic. The support has been wonderful, and Easyread has highlighted vision issues that teachers and Occupational Therapists have missed. The time commitment is not onerous and my 7-year old son loves playing the games.
I would highly recommend Easyread to anyone with reading or spelling difficulties.

Alice’s reading has improved dramatically…

Alice’s reading has improved dramatically. She reached her first reading goal and has now started chapter books. It’s still not her favorite subject, but she has the skills, her confidence has grown, and she’s committed to reading every day.

We appreciate the time we spent with Easyread and everyone’s thoughtful assistance in the program.

Best,
E

His teacher was nearly giddy with excitement…

I am the most pleased with his boosted confidence and the fact that his love of books is coming out. Before we found this program, he loved to be read to, but you could not get him to read a book on his own or to you for anything. He would come home crying about how everyone was ahead of him at school, and the reading was affecting his work in all of his subjects. It was a nightmare. He still has struggles finishing his work because it takes him a while to read it, and things are not super easy for him, but he got a 100% on his last reading test, and his teacher was nearly giddy with excitement. These successes would not have been possible before. This has given him hope.

Jennifer (at lesson 33)

That is until we discovered easy read…

We are really enjoying the program, and I honestly can’t say I would change anything. I am so excited to see M decoding words from start to finish, not only with the program but with other books as well. We have had 2 “firsts” this week; First of all Mathew drew a picture which included a sentence explaining his picture, and secondly he picked out and brought two books to me to read on his own. He has never ever voluntarily written anything up until this point, and he has also never voluntarily read a book to me.

Because of M’s successes so far and our wonderful school’s readiness to accommodate his special learning needs, we have decided to enrol him in school again. He attended kindergarten and first grade in school, but his difficulties reading had become so apparent that I didn’t think he could continue in the classroom setting appropriately. I homeschooled him for second grade and the beginning of third grade, His math, auditory memory, and reasoning skills have been progressing beautifully, but throughout second grade I could not see much improvement with his reading. That is until we discovered easy read, and it has made all the difference in the world. He started second-quarter of third grade this week.

It will definitely be a challenge to do both his homework and his easy read program now that he’s in school, but we will make it a priority. Thank you so much for developing this program.

Sincerely,
K (at lesson 43)
P.S. I do not mind if you quote anything that I said, but I would like M’s and my name to be left out. Thank you!

We are very satisfied with the Easy Read system…

We are very satisfied with the Easy Read system. The lessons are very good and the right length. Stone is feeling very confident. There are times he tries to guess and I remind him to sound/decode the words out loud to hear the word. The last 2-1/2 months I have heard my son say – hold on I am reading something. He is 12 years old and those are words I had never heard before. Absolutely incredible to hear!!

Thank you!!!

We are finding the program very helpful…

We are finding the program very helpful for Carson, he is finding it easier to decode words outside of the system as well. The name game seems to be extremely helpful for decoding because the names are not familiar which makes them more difficult to guess. The only problems we have had with the system have been glitches in the games, which have been fixed and all are working well now. My husband, who is at work during the day so he is unable to sit with Carson, is also noticing changes in Carson’s ability:)
We have had such success, we recently encouraged another family to give the free trial a go and they are preparing to have two of their children go through the system as well:) Thank you so much for the time, effort and great encouragement you have been throughout the process, we continue to be excited and hopeful about Carson’s future reading success.

We had a “reading meeting” with her reading teacher…

We already have seen some changes with Adyson and her reading for the better. We had a “reading meeting” with her reading teacher as well as her regular teacher. Adyson is almost up to grade level which is good. They are seeing her decode well, and her spelling is good too. – T (at lesson 30)

Back in 2010 my son Matthew took your Easyread course…

Back in 2010 my son Matthew took your Easyread course – and I am pleased to report that he is now in Year 9 and in top stream for English at his school. He is not a bookworm, and I do not expect he ever will be, and has an aversion still to picking up a pen, but seems to be able to develop imaginative, amusing  and creative scenarios and get them onto paper when he needs to – we are so grateful for your help it getting him to this point.

Thank you so much for all your hard work for this outstanding program…

Thank you so much for all your hard work for this outstanding program. Preston had such an amazing time with Easyread and he truly enjoyed playing the games. This is such a fantastic tool for helping children want to read in a fun way. We are so happy with his reading and will now work with him on French reading. Please let us know if you develop a program in French. We will be a customer. We will stop Easyread till he needs it for english in a few years. I will definitely keep Easyreads site for when we plan to do more english.

Thank you very much,
-S

End of trial feedback

1 – In what ways has the system been different to what you expected?
ANSWER: (1) It offers much more parental training and support than I expected. (2) My child is enjoying the program and looking forward to her lessons much more than I would have anticipated, especially since we mostly do them at the end of a long school day and homework sessions.

2 – Does it feel, at this early stage, as if we are going to deliver on our promises of breakthroughs in due course and what main worries remain for you?
ANSWER: Yes, I can already see that she is shifting her strategy toward decoding, and that her enthusiasm about the program will keep her on track.

3 – What have been your biggest frustrations with the course so far? To be honest, I haven’t had any frustrations yet.
(a) –
(b) –
(c) –
(d) –

4 – What were the two most important factors for you when you looked at our website, in choosing to give the trial a go?
(a) – I did not see anything gimmicky about it–in other words, there was a high level of authenticity that was not undercut by poor marketing strategies.
(b) – You have an extremely thoughtful and differentiated approach that draws on science and the latest studies and that intuitively I felt would resonate with my child.

5 – And what two worries/questions most made you hesitate before starting the trial?
(a) – Whether my child would \”get on board\” with the program, participating every day.
(b) – Whether my child would be a good fit for your program or would be an outlier for whom it just wouldn’t work.

6 – What do you most like about the course?
ANSWER: It’s hard to choose just one thing, but having my daughter beg me to let her “do Easyread” has got to take first place. Her face lights up while she’s doing it. You’re on to something very real here. Thank you!

I was worried that he would’ve lost skills in the interim…

We had to take a little break from Easyread because things got so crazy around here and then the stupid hurricane showed up. We’re just now getting back to normal. I was worried that he would’ve lost skills in the interim, but NO!!!! Everything he’s gained, he kept. Can’t say it enough. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! And — the new process where the library words are scrambled at first? GENIUS!!! Love this improvement!!! The new games are fabulous :)))) You just keep getting better and better!! Thank you so much!!!

My hat is off to your staff and their continual efforts…

Thank you easy read for this unique system. My son absolutely loves this program. I first thought that he might feel as though it was a set back for him as a thirteen year old, but he embraced it with courage and looks forward to it each and every day.

He loves earning the code words and rewards which are sent through the mail addressed specifically to him. The spy theme makes him the envy of his brothers and the rewards increase his excitement even more. The themes of the books are also part of his excitement for he enjoys the content within them.

During his daily school work I am noticing that he is using his decoding techniques instead of guessing, which is an amazing plus for him and he is no longer afraid to tackle those hard words.

My hat is off to your staff and their continual efforts to keep encouraging us forward and the training for me as a parent is much appreciated as well.

Blessings to you all,
S (mother of 13 year-old on lesson 44)

Detailed review of some of the games

Madhava has enjoyed playing games in order to learn to spell. Though the programs are obviously relatively new therefore require a bit of work, it still seemed to do the trick! At times, Madhava picks out random words and proudly shows me how he can spell them by saying them out loud. This is a massive change for him! Before he started – it was almost impossible to get him to attempt to spell words.

Towards the end I felt the programs weren’t always keeping up with what he needed to be focusing on – games like mole whacker etc weren’t weaknesses for him but they came up quite a few times, so he would skip them. In saying that, sometimes madhava wasn’t feeling inspired to do his easyread, so those shorter lessons gave him a bit of a chance to have a break.

Just to review some of the games:
He does get a huge surge of confidence when it comes time to do the spelling assessor – i think their could have been more opportunities for that.
Type race was a great game that never got too easy and kept him on his toes. One suggestion I would make is for there to be an option to replay the sentence that was read out loud, as sometimes (mainly because of the foreign accent) we missed what was said the first time. But I think its the best game – its like killing two birds with one stone – the kids learn to type and spell at the same time!

He always looked forward to Spelldrive, but because it doesn’t allow you to get gems once you’ve spelt a word (some glitch in it) that dampened his enthusiasm for it. I liked that it had some challenging spelling words, made him think.

This feedback isn’t really written in the nicest way. I haven’t had much time to spend writing feedback but I am definitely happy with how it has turned out for Madhava. He has come a long way since the beginning of the year when we first started. Actually, easyread is probably the only thing he has been able to stick to for such a long time!
I think its a very innovative idea and very practicable for children today.

We will be in touch.
regards,
D

I encourage you to develop/market the program with older students…

I continue to be pleased with my son’s improvement in both reading and spelling as he goes through the EasyRead program. As an older student, he has shown improvement much earlier than I expected to see it, and I encourage you to develop/market the program with older students in mind because it is working for us!
Thanks,
C

The amazing news is that the teacher notices tremendous growth!

I wanted to update you on Adelaide’s first reading assessment this year. The amazing news is that the teacher notices tremendous growth!

There were 2 assessments. One was reading a book with pictures and text and the other with just text. She had Addie read a book that was at grade level, which was M, (in June she was a J- which was one year behind her grade.) The teacher noticed excellent comprehension. She was blown away. Addie was on on grade level for comprehension. – K

We’ve had a breakthrough week!

We’ve had a break through week! Sam’s reading has started to take off. Yesterday on the drive to school, he read three books (Sam and the Big Kids, Car Goes Far and Come Back Ben) and today he read four books (Are you Ready to Play Outside?, Happy Cat, Fireman Fred and Pete Won’t Eat). The books are for beginner readers, but we are so thrilled for him. He is at a new school with new expectations, so he is very motivated. I hope you start to see the improvement in the system! Cheers,

-D.

I think we are going to stop doing the lessons now…

I think we are going to stop doing the lessons now. Unfortunately we got out of the habit of doing the lessons during the summer holidays and whilst we were away on holiday and it feels natural to stop now having had the break rather than pick it up again for just a couple more weeks.

Thank you so much for all your help and support over the last year with Lucy. I really feel like Easyread has made a big difference and we are so happy we found you. Before we started Lucy’s writing was very difficult to read, her spelling was so phonetic you had to decipher it to read it. Her teacher used to say he would take her work home with him to mark because he knew it would take him longer to read than the others! She also had problems reading that we hadn’t previously detected, we hadn’t realised she was struggling and that she had been guessing lots of words.

Her reading has improved enormously and she was proud to have been moved up a group in reading in her class at the start of the new school year.

Her writing has also improved so much, it it much clearer and can be read easily. Her spelling has also improved a lot. It still needs some work but I would say that the mistakes she makes now are more what you might expect of a 9 year old, and don’t affect your ability to read her writing in the way they used to.

Thanks again

K
